Follow me

Postby Gijs » Sun Jan 13, 2008 5:40 pm

Hi,

Here's my new vehicle for FlightGear: a follow me car.
This car leads airplanes to their parkingpositions at airports.

It's almost done, but i still need to do some things.
Is there anybody who could make the doors go open when you push a button in the menu?

You can download it at: http://www.filefactory.com/file/cb6d6f/

not wanting to be too particular, could you remove the unnecessary files in the folders before uploading? i believe some files shouldnt be there, eg thumbnail (showing the wrong car), etc.

Well, i only could remove the thumbnail and the readme file. The others are needed (as far as i know). Here's the file again (and i've placed a texture on top of the car).

I downloaded your new car ( nice model btw) but when i tried to run it, command promt said " unexpected tag " HITCH" found in yasim description"
Is there a way to fix this? do i need an add-on?

Ho ho.

Excellent model. However, I found a couple of kinks.
The picture of the car seems to be a jeep in the launcher. This come back to haunt you when you try to open one of the doors, and find yourself putting on a softroof or tilting an invisible windscreen forward.

The funny thing is that, if you keep the softroof thingy, you can advertise it as having tailgate party capabilities too!

Its still great fun though.

That must be euro style. I am used to seeing pickup trucks with the follow me. And found this interesting photo of one with a stop on top .

Even found the army jeep being used painted yellow

I don't know why that's. I'd got it to at my pc. It seems to be a bug in FLightGear. But here's a file that must work: http://www.filefactory.com/file/00df0f/

Yeah, i need to make that part working. But i do that when the model itself is done. So i first need to texture it completely and do some interior work etc.

The hitch error is due to extra codes in your followme-yasim.xml:

Delete the following codes =>

<hitch name="aerotow" x="-1.523" y="0" z="1.2" force-is-calculated-by-other="0">
<tow length="10" weight-per-meter="0.035" elastic-constant="9000" break-force="1000000" mp-auto-connect-period="0.0"/>
<winch max-tow-length="100" min-tow-length="20" initial-tow-length="20"/>
<control-input axis="/controls/aerotow/find-aircraft" control="FINDAITOW"/>
</hitch>

Thank Sneo! that helped a lot! :D

BTW: Gijs, awsome model, had few problems on the realism of driving, but overall, this model is far yet the best vehicle in Flightgear 8)

Quick question; was the yasim file based on the pushback one?

I figured, but I asked because of the extra code; it included aerotow stuff, and I know you just got your pushback to do towing.

Yes, I don't know why it's in the codec of the Jeep :S

I am no pilot glider or otherwise. I recall reading in the distant past about vehicle towed glider launches. It shouldn't be much different in practice from using a ground winch.

(Edit)
Here's a link to Wikipedia referring to automotive launches:
