Setup a multiple aircrafts arena

Postby Droogie » Sun Feb 17, 2019 2:01 pm

I would like to send flight data (position...) over socket of multiple aircrafts (without running FlightGear if possible), and to collect and display all these data in one instance of FlightGear,
How can I do this ?

if flightgear is not running, where do you expect to send the data?
maybe you can be more clear about what you are attempting to do?
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I guess you want to somehow calculate flightdata for other planes outside of FlightGear and then just transmit the data to your single FG instance. There are IMO 2 possibilities: use e.g Telnet to manipulate AI objects - that will only be visible for your FG instance. Or use multiplayer to make it visible for everyone (or only yourself if you use a privte MP server). You do not have to use an FG indtance to send data to MP. E.g. OpenRadar uses a Java implementation to talk to MP.

In case you intend to do something in Python with MP, then please let me know.

As vanosten mentioned, I have my own engine, and other aircrafts behavior are calculated in this application, and all I have to do is send their positions to flightgear over udp connection so it can be rendered.
But the problem is that I don’t know the protocol to send data of multiple aircrafts.

Your best resource is the wiki for this question. The multiplayer protocol is documented there and it's behavior explained. Alternatively, you could use python and telnet to the status port of a MP server (5001), and feed that information into your engine through other means.
I speak only for myself.
