Own LocaL TerraSync Server?

Postby Manus » Fri Sep 14, 2018 8:43 am

Background: I have a room with currently 12 PC, all with Flightgear. These PCs are used for testing and simulation.
All Computers are connetced via a local area network without access to the internet (Not allowed due to company security issues)

So my idea was to setup (if possible) a local TerraSync Server, feed it with data i sync with the internet once a week on an other network and connect all clients to this local server.

Is this possible? I found the python scripts to download a local copy of the TerraSync Data onto my pc but is it possible to distribute this data into a LAN?

Theres a couple of things you can do if you have a local TerraSync mirror:

1. configure a web server to point at it & then use that as a local terrasync mirror with the built in http client with the cmdline option --prop:/sim/terrasync/http-server=http://{local ip address or hostname}/{path configured in webserver to scenery}/
2. Setup a local share (NFS/SMB etc) and use this in your scenery path (and disable terrasync)

what you do depends on the speed of your local network & speed of the server you're using to share locally

On a local area network You can simply mount your terasync data as an external drive. and put that in your flightgear sceney path.

e.g. --fg-scenery=C:\FlightGear\MyScenery;H:\terrasync, where is on my network drive and C:\FlightGear\MyScenery is local to the computer running FG.

This is an alternative to setting up your mirror as a http (www) server, and configuring the local FG clients to use flightgear´s terrasync protocol to download from this local web server rather than the external ones.
