dpkg error with Phi

Postby lissalissa » Sat Oct 15, 2016 2:04 pm

Hello, all.
I upgraded my system to Ubuntu 16.10 this week, at which time Flightgear promptly stopped working (began to complain of missing base data packages). I cleaned my system of anything Flightgear, and went to re-install from the Saikrishna Arcot PPA. This attempted install runs into the following issue when running apt install:

Code: Select all
Unpacking flightgear-phi (2016.2.1+dfsg2-2) ...
dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-k2I8CZ/17-flightgear-phi_2016.2.1+dfsg2-2_all.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/games/flightgear/Phi/3rdparty/clockpicker/jquery-clockpicker.min.css', which is also in package flightgear-data-base 1:2016.3.1+dfsg-0ubuntu1~ppa1
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)

Using apt install -f made no difference, and I'm at a bit of a loss for what direction to head next for the solution.

Any ideas?

is that PPA compiling for ubuntu 16.10 or is it compiling for older ubuntus??

Well, there's some weirdness there it turns out. Although a 2016.3.1 version does exist in the ppa for 16.10, it does not seem to be what apt wants to install (apt is instead attempting to install a 2016.2.1 package for some unspecified system). When I try to specify the version as the yakkity version (e.g. sudo apt install flightgear=2016.3.1-0ubuntu1~ppa2~yakkety1) listed at https://launchpad.net/~saiarcot895/+arc ... flightgear apt insists that no such version exists. Here's the total output from attempting simply sudo apt install flightgear:

you should PM saiarcot895 in these forums and point them to this topic...

Remove the flightgear-phi package, then try upgrading. That package isn't from my PPA.

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get purge flightgear-phi

Edit: The flightgear package has compile errors for Yakkety, so I'll need to fix this first.

You should now be able to install flightgear on Yakkety.
