Anyone interested? And has anyone else made one for FG yet?

I'm offering to do the 3D mesh part. This still leaves the FDM and instrumentation up for grabs.

Hey, good idea to bring the good old bone into the flightgear world. Since I'm a bit short of time I'm not a big help at the moment, since I'm working on the spirit as well.

Nevertheless I could do a simple yasim FDM during summer if noone else fills the gap :D . The trickiest part will be to synchronize the wing settings of 15, 25, 45, 55, and 67.5 with the moving center of gravity ... maybe some nasal will do ..

good luck and keep on doing you valuable work,

As time passed by I did a very rudimentary yasim FDM for the bone. A lot of minor adjustments still have to be made, but its flyable.
I modeled it in the 55 degrees wing sweep position because we can't simulate wing sweep, and I added a fake 25 degree position for landing/takeoff. The afterburner is usable and gives a solid punch to the plane :D .

When I have done some correction to flight dynamics I will post the FDM here, and besides, a 3D model would come in handy ...

Here is the link to a very basic and bold version of the bone!

B-1B.tar.gz

- flaps control the fake wingsweep 25 (used for takeoff and landing - enabled at start) - disengage the flaps control to get the wing sweep to 55 degrees

- spoiler control flaps ...

- o/O afterburner on/off

enjoy and watch your fuel

Man, I need to get modeling the external visuals for this... I've been doing other stuff though.

I already modelled a basic 3d model, since its much easier on the test flights. Take a look and proceed with it if you like, I havent made textures though. There are some animations in it, so please keep the names of the meshes.

Latest version (27.06) downloadable above!

New version available above 10.07.2007!

- Complete rewrite of the wing section
- Added some cockpit instruments / some are "stolen" from other aircraft
- known bug: autopilot cant handle overspeed well
- wing sections need to be modeled

I finally got around to it... Sorry about the wait. Right now I'm just getting it shaped out, since my method is to bulk out the model and add details later. (As opposed to the other method of building up piece by piece.)

More updates to come as further progress is made on the 3D mesh part.

Another update. Worked on shaping the engine areas some more.

New updated model features:

B-1B download

- a very basic terrain avoidance system usable with terrain follow or altitude hold
- new panels
- osg only selectable switches
- many small updates and fixes

Terrain avoidance system very alpha but works and saved my virtual being more than once, use as following:
- switch on TER AVD
- select range (currently working 2.5, selected when flying below <=1000ft and 5nm selected when flying >=1000ft)
- select clearance in ft, available 0=off, 100, 300, 500, 1000ft for low flying; always use the next smaller increment then your agl hold altitude eg:
agl hold 1000ft --> use 500 clearance, at 1000 you will get a very bumpy ride;

One instrument relies on the B-2 being installed;

Enjoy,
glazmax

ps: pauljs75, we are getting there .. :-)

Some files updated for bugfixes, version available above!

Since I work on FDM, panels, systems etc., there is only a spare 3D model available by now. The much more visual appealing model should come from pauljs75, but is in work right now.

Nevertheless some screens:

Still working on the mesh. Some nuances are trickier than they look at first. Seems they don't show that well in the blueprints (which are pretty good ones from airwar.ru), but looking at pics I find I'm noticing some stuff. Right now I'm trying to figure out how the trailing blended surface above the engines tapers off.

Also I think it might not be a bad idea to just have the windows as part of the texturing rather than as a separate material/mesh. They're pretty small compared to most aircraft and appear tinted. From other models, I recall that normal backsides aren't rendered - so some of the other aircraft seem to work ok using this concept. Also is it possible to drive different channels such as specular and reflective through textures in FlightGear? Not that I'm on mapping/texturing yet, but it would be nice to know.

Also if there's any interior geometry that might be tricky to work out for the cockpit, I'd also be willing to give modeling that a shot if provided links to good reference pics.

Hey paul, that looks great!

Maybe you can look for some details here:

http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?front=yes&s=1&keywords=b-1b+lancer+engines

And I think the windows just look small because the plane is quite big, the view out from inside is quite excellent.

Take a look:
