TransGear Airways #14 - Strait of Gibraltar (Sept 11th)

Postby Lukosius » Sat Sep 04, 2010 4:18 am

TransGear Airways now moves to the Western Mediterranean for TransGear Airways #14 - Strait of Gibraltar.

The event will be similar to last month's event in the Alps, with two hubs and 'one-way' routes. This time it will be focused around north-west Africa, Spain and Portugal, with hubs at Casablanca, Morocco (GMMN) and Malaga, Spain (LEMG).

Here are the route maps for all three legs. I will post some flight times a little later....

I guess I'll take legs #1 and #2, LXGD-GMMN-LEMG. I finally have FGCom working... If the times are anything like what they've been in the past, they should work for me.

GCLP-GMMN-LEMG-LFBO for me in the Concorde ("homecoming")
Just checked the website, apparently the route registration system is not yet used for this, right?

Not yet, however we may still have it up and running for this event.

Lukosius didn't have enough free time to build the hub files for it this month. Now that the maps are posted I may build them myself. If I do I'll register the routes for the people who've already taken routes at that point, in the order they posted.. But I'm making no promises I'll get them built until midweek. Callsigns will be assigned by the system then.

I like the maps though. It gives a good visualization of the routes.

Is the format documented somewhere? I doubt it is too difficult to put it together, right? I volunteer 8)

I'll have to check on the times and see if this doesn't conflict with sleep or the band at the football game.

So far there is only one other approved ATC who MAY be available for this event. I'm hoping we can adjust the timing to his availability, or we will have to make this a single hub event. I'm working on finding out when he'll be available as fast as possible.

UPDATE: Okay, so if we can get the arrivals at the first hub to be at 1530 to 1600 UTC, that would be good. Then, we can have a 2-hub event.

Yep, arrival times at the first hub will be between 1530UTC and 1600UTC, and at the second hub between 1700UTC and 1730UTC.

I will get the times on here shortly.

Here is the event schedule.

Image

What you need to do now:

(1) Select your leg #1 flight from the GREEN column, and your leg #3 flight from the PURPLE column. Your flight times will be determined by what route you select, in particular leg #1. We will confirm your flight times on this forum once you submit your request.
(2) Select your aircraft (make sure it is on the "Approved Aircraft" list on the TransGear website (http://transgear.treborlogic.com/approved-equip.html).

Unlike previous TGA events, you will be able to select the same routes as other pilots.

Your flight number will be determined by the numbers you select from the GREEN column and the PURPLE column. For example if you select the Tangier-Casablanca flight (number 1 from the green column) and Malaga-Lisbon (number 5 from the purple column), your flight number will be TGA15. If someone else also selects those same exact flights, then we add another digit on the end (e.g. TGA151 and TGA152).
If you cannot fly all legs, just select what you will most likely fly.

General Aviation:
GA pilots are more than welcome to participate, and have the option of flying with a TGA flight number if they want. Those who want to use a TGA flight number will be given the numbers TGA901 through to TGA909 (it's very unlikely that we would get more than 9 GA pilots wanting TGA flight numbers). The only rule for GA pilots is that they must follow ATC instructions.

Ok, we have three pilots signed up so far (calico, can you advise which aircraft you will be using)?

Put me in for #9 leg 3 in the CRJ-200. Any earlier and I'll be sleeping...

I will be glad to be ATC at Casablanca, since Malaga would be too late during the day.

Great news. Redneck, as you are coordinating the ATC side of things, is this ok?

Also, one thing to note about GMMN (Casablanca) - you may want to consider not using runway 17R/35L as there does not appear to be any taxiways to/from it in FlightGear.
