Thank you for your efforts hellcat. That will help me with effects quite a bit once I get to those aircraft. :) I just finished modeling the Fokker Dr.1's most commonly used round: the 7.92x57mm Mauser. I'll have a release of the Fokker Dr.1 with the shell eject available within a half hour. :D

For "rifle" caliber casings (this includes the .50 calibers) probably the best source of information on the shell casing dimensions and configuration is a book on metallic cartridge reloading. These will have accurate drawings of the shell casing along with exact dimensions for every part of the case along with things like shoulder angel and other data. These can be found in any gun store and on-line and are not expensive.

Ethen3349 is correct that to be accurate you need more than the bore diameter since in most cases each country would have had a different shell case even if the bore size and general cartridge type (riffle, pistol...) is the same. For example the 12.5mm (.50 cal) used in American planes is the .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun) and this is different from the 12.5mm used in Japanese aircraft and both are also different from the 12.5mm cartridge used by the USSR. For a more detailed example the .308 is a "rimless" cartridge (meaning that the rim has a smaller diameter than the largest part of the case) and the .303 is a rimed case (meaning the the rim is the largest diameter part of the case). Another example based on age - the .308/7.62 NATO and 30-06 are both US issue 7.62mm bore cartridges (the .30-06 was in use from 1906 until 1958 and the 7.62 NATO - AKA the .308 - was adapted in 1956) but they have different lengths with the 30-06 being longer mostly by having a longer neck and a shallower shoulder angel. As a result the 30-06 has more case capacity and this results in improved ballistics compared to the .308/7.62 NATO (more velocity and the ability to shoot a heavier bullet) but at the cost of being heaver and having somewhat more recoil.

While I like to keep things as real as possible, if the shell casing isn't the exact width of the real one, it won't hurt anybody. In new shell models, I will keep width in mind, but I don't have the time to go back and re-do the finished shell case models. Anyways, to keep everyone updated: I am currently adding the shell eject effect to the SPAD-VII, but it uses nasal for the trigger binding, and in this case, the nasal bindings are making adding the effect much more complex than necessary, so I am going to re-do the bindings for the SPAD-VII, and hope to have it released later today.

A6M2 with shell eject effect: A6M2 Zero

Now that I've added the effect to all the aircraft in the bombable package, I won't add the effect to any more aircraft unless requested. I'm going to do more research on the M61A1 Vulcan Cannon, and if it ejects shells(I'm pretty sure it does), then I'll add the effect to the F-14B. :)

If you could give me the .ac file for different caliber rounds, I'll be happy to add them to the aircraft myself and make them available for other users

You might want to simplify the .ac files for the shells for guns like the Vulcan Cannon. The high rate of fire means a high number of .ac models being throwm around, which in turn could have a fair old impact on fps.

I've thought about that being a possible issue, but haven't experienced any problems yet. I'll have to play that by ear.

Actually, the Dr.1 has a shell collectors box just in front of the pilot. If you look at the guns you will see two guider rails on both sides of the gun.
