Thanks for the offer, liveries are key for this plane. I'm almost done with the cockpit, then I'll try to find someone to animate it. :D

That plane is just beautiful. It will surely make an excellent addition to Flightgear's inventory, look's like it would be fun to fly too.

Give me some time at the Pacific Aviation Museum and I can help you a little with the liveries and the pilot model. They have a P-40 there so you could probably base the model on that

That would be great! :D The cockpit is my top priority, so make sure to take detailed notes(and pictures! :D ) on that.

Just so you know, the pilot is wearing a collared shirt since he and his friend were at a party the night before and didn't have time to change when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.
Here are two pictures I found online:

Am I able to use the P-51D's pilot model?

you could, just as long as you have permission to use it.

Nice! one of my favourite aircraft With some great liveries available for it:D

A couple of problems That I can see though:
The undercarriage doors, no P-40 ever had that type of door, they have twin doors like the nose wheel doors on a B-24 etc.
And assuming this is a short tail P-40D/E, according to the information I have, the nose seems to long and the tailplane to small, but that could be just the angle of the screen shots.

I have quite a bit of information on the P-40 so if you want anything let me know and I'll see what I can find.

If it's released under GPL you can do what you want with it.

Oh, I'll fix that. :D For animating the fear/gear doors, do I have to paint all four doors and both wheels different colors?

That's good, I'll add it in, once I can get it exported as an .ac, which I seem to be having trouble with.

Does anybody else have sketchup with the AC3D export plugin? For some reason, it won't export right, and I really want to make the transition into AC3D now. :)

Gooneybird you always make the best liveries, I'm glad that you can be involved. :D

 those wings (and some other parts) look a little too high polly IMO. Altough it might not have that much impact on framerates, it will have impact on the filesize of the aircraft...
Apart from that it is quite a nice model so far!

I would take a huge file 50++++ mb any day. As long as it doesn't effect the frame rate.

Cheers
