Ask13 new glider

Postby WooT » Thu Apr 01, 2010 2:26 pm

Hello,

I have been making a new glider, I choose the Schleicher ASK-13 because it is the plane on which I learned to fly gliders :) Quite a bit of nostalgy !

Image

The ASK 13 is a twin seat glider, quite easy and very forgiving, it was and is still used by many gliders club as a school platform. Don't expect extraordinary performance though, despite it is great as slow speed and climbs really good in thermals, high speeds will bring you down on earth quickly !

The fdm is relatively accurate, and was set to match a single pilot configuration.

In a next step, I would like to make a dual control version, and I would modify the fdm accordingly for the new weight.

Other than that, there is still some work to do on texturing and some details to be fixed / finished, but it is completely flyable as-is.

You can get it here :http://www.bentha.net/fgfs/hangar/ASK13.zip
or as tar.gz, here http://www.bentha.net/fgfs/hangar/ASK13.tar.gz
or, by updating your CVS Aircrafts.

note that as I used normal maps shader for the wings ribs, I think you will need a recent CVS flightgear to use it. I'm not sure what will happen on a official 2.0 or a 1.9.

Enjoy, and stay tuned for next versions !

I corrected the link, there was just a / to remove at the end. Sorry about that !

Normal map shader works in FGFS 2.0.0, but of course not in 1.9.1.

Nice to see an accurate modelled and detailed glider like this! And even an accurate fdm provided by the real pilot! Great! :D Can't wait to try!

I'm still having a problem with the zip file, the ASK folder is about 15 folders deep and won't let extract it from there.
This is on win xp.

Nice one Woot! Awesome looking interior!
The glider fleet is expanding :)

Unpacked with 7-zip leaves me with a dd400\archives\games\flightgear\Aircrafts\ASK-13\public directory, in which the actual aircraft houses.

Thanks Gijs, got it now, just going to give a try.

(edit) Just tried it, and like it a lot, it seems normal map shader doesn't work with v.2.0. unless I need to make a few adjustments :(

I'm still not getting it to work. I had to copy the files to ASK13/Models/Effects as well (from error message in command line window), but this is what I'm getting now:

Hmmm... Indeed. The first version of bumpspec-shader did work on 2.0.0.
I'll take a look, maybe somethings missing

Indeed- the effect-file I gave isn't compatible with 2.0.0.

But this: http://cvs.flightgear.org/viewvc/data/Effects/bumpspec.eff?revision=1.1, the first version should work. (For me it does on 2.0.0) :D

Thanks HHS, that worked fine, I replaced the files in "ASK13/Models/Effects" and "data/Shaders".

nice to see that you finally got it working !

I updated the zip file, this time I compressed it with another method. With some luck this one will be easier to expand...
I had made it .zip instead of .tar.gz so that everyone can expand it, but it seems its not that easy !

Thanks WooT, a great little glider. I'm probably in the minority here, I prefer to plod around in a glider or old propeller plane, rather than an A380 or F-14.
