North American XB-70

Postby F22-killed-you » Mon Nov 30, 2009 10:41 pm

Hey, I spent a lot of time lately reading through VERY old posts on this forum, and i saw a link with a MSFSX movie with a beautiful xb70. So i started modeling it and wanted to put it into FG. Then when i was about to make this topic i searched for Valkyrie and lo and behold, someone had done it. But that was mid 2008 and it doesn't look like it is finished. Maybe it was finished on the mailing list or irc or.. i don't know

Well here's my version.

Model by me, no cockpit no view selection. FDM by aeromatic. Thanks to the FG wiki (again. It rules!) for helping me with the -set.xml

ps: Could some very nice person uv map it and/or animate it? [EDIT] Thanks Isix! I'll call you up on your offer to map it soon!

If someone can animate it;

The speedbrakes, can only go down if the wing tip (foldable for high speeds) is horizontal.
[EDIT:] 65° = maximum fold

Thanks again! :D

if papillon has in fact finished his xb70, can someone tell me?

Thanks! (for the 3rd time  )
Swindel

edit:

Status:

Todo:
cockpit
mapping (isix)
animations (someone? :D )

Done
exterior model (more or less anyway, placement is still off.)

I can help you in "uv map", ok? One question, where is the XB-70 gear trim?

I haven't modeled the gear yet  Will do so soon.

So i'm guessing that i'm going to cotinue with this and then ask someone to animate it later :D

isix, did it fly?

If yes can you email me a few screenshots so i can make a splash screen.

Thanks,
and i'll send you the finished model soon.

It won't show up in FGrun - Windoze Vista Home Premium - FG 1.9.1

Any Ideas?

Hovkid

BTW, was that movie "Vectors - An FSX film"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fej9EWWLSsw#

I watched it yesterday, it's a great movie, we should make something like this :P

Yup! that's it! The wings folding are just beautiful! When this plane receives animations, it will be my favourite! (if i ever get 1.9.1 to work...)

For the problem with fgrun, i think i NEED to include a splash screen else it doesn't work. Which i'm going to do soon. I've already finished it on GIMP, its a random xb70 photo, nice but temporary.

So i'm going to edit the link in the first post soon, if it works.

I wish! It works on ubuntu i think but not on windows. Gah.. I don't like fgrun. Good ol' reliable command line is perfect in ubuntu. I can't start FG from the command line in windows. :?

Hey Hovkid, could you test if this crashes FlightGear for you:

EDIT: link tooken out due to the plane crashing FlightGear.

It does for me, also the textures are messed up, i know  Isix offered to map it so i need to finish the model one day. And again, landing gear is not modeled yet.

Thanks,
Swindel

Sure, testing it now.

EDIT: (It wouldn't let me make a new post) Model looks good in FGrun, but yes, it crashed my FG.

Will you post a new link now that you have it working, or are you going to wait until it's further developed?

Thanks,

Model has landing gear and correct size now.

here's a sketchup screenie, it's displaced in FG but i know how to easily correct that.

Image

I could get you the file but you wouldn't be able to do anything. The model is massively displaced and theres no view selection (don't know how to implement that)

The model you can hardly see it its so far out...
