More like a brick.

The shuttle orbiter is not designed to climb. It won't do it. No way, no how.

It is designed to "land" with huge drag, to slow it down from hypersonic speed. Its L/D is much lower than a conventional aircraft, and its descent rate is higher.

If you want to fly it like an airplane, fly an airplane. You can't simulate something that is impossible.

is that even legal???
sounds awesome but...
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

I forgot but I think I saw it on some encyclopedia at Border's (if you're living in the US) or on Wikipedia (if you can find it)...?

You're thinking of the Voyager spacecraft, but the last two Pioneer missions also had small plaques indicating where they were from, if I'm not mistaken (they were the first two man made objects to escape the Solar System, followed by the Voyager 1 and 2)
If it ain't broke, break it. How else are you going to figure out how it works ?

Only if pieces of it spontaneously break off, it lights itself on fire, and random system failures keep the crew in the Progress module.

I doubt FG has the dynamics necessary for that. Orbiting is a very VERY different beast from flight a few miles from the ground. For Mir, its orbit was so low that tidal forces from the moon and space weather caused variable drag from the upper atmosphere. All those things would seem to be out of spec for FG. The only part it seems to support is the existence of thrusters. Gravity seems to be uniform; this makes for very bizarre "orbits."

The External Fuel Tank looks awesome!
All we have to do is put the SRBs on and it will be amazing.

Looking good so far.

well... people have lives to lead, and sometimes it's rather pointless to follow the community if flightgear doesn't work on your pc anymore...
