Custom Scenery EDDF

Postby papillon81 » Tue Jun 16, 2009 5:43 pm

Hi fellow developers!

I just wanted to share some results of my first Terragear experiments. Here is the EDDF area with some OSM roads (osm_motorway, osm_trunk, osm_primary):
fgfs-screen-008.jpeg

You can also see some new lakes and sand beaches on them. However there is a problem to properly map the sand to the end of the water. I hope this can be solved.
The sad thing is that my machine is too old to render trees. As I added a lot of forest, it might look quite nicely when approaching 07L/25R :D

Cheers,
Chris

That's how EDDF should look ( o.k. wth trees of course! ) - I wonder if we may use OSM. I do know that X-Plane found a way no to include the datas- but for FGFS?

As there is quite some construction work going on in EDDF, I decided to already show the future in FG ;-)

The runway markings are not yet working right. The runway at the center is former 25R, now 25C. This should show up on the runway texture, but it only reads "25". Well. Maybe not too difficult to fix. Taxidraw at least does not complain :-)

Yeah- that's the future. I wonder how many people here recognize the changes.

Apart from the OSM roads, is there anything apart from the new layout of the airport itself that differs from stock FGFS and stock scenery ?
Missing 3d clouds and anti aliasing ;)
If it ain't broke, break it. How else are you going to figure out how it works ?

Re: Custom Scenery EDDF announcment

Hi,

there have not been many news for quite some time, but now I got some work done in the recent days: further adapt EDDF to future developments. The base for this was already layed, but I still had to combine it (and built new scenery). Now there is a new scenery for EDDF, which contains the following changes:

-new airport layout with added NW runway that is now named 25R/07L
-renaming of old 25R/07L RW to 25C/07C (letter "C" supported by our scenery tools now)
-new tower for EDDF. It is needed (and currently built in reality) to enable the controllers to get a good view over the whole airport, including the new runway. The tower is derived from work of our valued friend D79, who built it for EDDP and EDDV.
-bridges from the main part of the airport to the NW runway. Those were modeled by D79, too
-custom scenery with lots of enhancements. just compare it with the scenery in terrasync. Main advancement: river Main is now modelled by hand and thus looks far more realistic.

Some background: the new runway will be a pure landing runway, just like RW 18 is only for takeoffs.

Image

I hope some of you will try it out.

EDIT:
It is now available via GIT or as tarball from the URL in my signature

Please note that this will not go into main scenery until being finished in reality.

Cheers,
Chris

Looks brilliant. Glad to see the center runway is now working too. Hopefully it will be finished soon so you can import it into the next scenery build.

Anyway, EDDF is becoming one of the nicest airports in FlightGear. Thanks a lot for all the hard work!

Hi,

well, I just decided to move all the work to Gitorious.

You can either clone there or download the tarball right away:
