GinGin, did we get this wrong?

It looks like they are lit in their entirety vs just the text?
I haven't been in the sim in awhile, isn't just the text illuminated in our version?

I can not answer for the Space Shuttle specifics, but those like the similar lit buttons would very likely be lit Jay-El brand or similar push-button switches. There are both ones ones with lit text on a black background and ones with black text on a lit surface. Only way to find out is if it either is stated in documentation or by looking through a lot of reference photos and footage. I would expect that some cockpits on museums might have been uncertain as well so they might have to be given less weight when comparing references.

I will check but I think it is a bit overdone on the real sim pic.
I think we got it good .
I will check on other real sim samples .

The "real sim" is in fact a "real photo", even with only the text lit, the photographed button it is quite likely to show up saturated! Look how far we're gone now, we're a bunch of psycho-maniac for sure :D

@Wayne:

In the Real Sim, those drag chute lights seem to be working a bit differently than the other one ( halo like we see in the pic)

I dont really see that in other real pictures or books.
I think we might got it right, black part and enlighten letters (like the other pushbuttons), not sure.
Need to find a HD picture of that part in the real one.

For the button, found this on the web. This is Endeavour:

but the picture matches our button!

Hi there,
got the covid last week and had some time at home to try a few planes with 2020.3. I have to say, we're going to have some fun in Iceland, beautiful landscape, plus rain and wind seem to be routine there :)

Image

At the end of the runway, I was unable to have wheel stops, it looks like the friction on the ground is not enough, the shuttle was sliding with the wind:

Image

I've made a video using the fgtape, and I spotted a few other weird things :-/

iceland.webm

-The rear wheels are not really centered on their axis? (see around 1:38). Landing damage?
-The tire on the front wheel seems to be structure less, or not spinning?
-After 2:30, you can see that the crew had good fun, inexorably pushed towards the sea :)

Cheers,
Chris.

Well that's interesting. I can't see why the front wouldn't have been animated. Maybe you can verify it is not a recorder issue. Check that they actually don't roll in the sim and that the recorder is just not picking it up.

I can center the wheel rotation better. I'm not sure why it wasn't done way back when.

Two word: Cinematic contrast.

I can almost literally hear alarms going off and the sound of paper leafs quickly being turned, and some slow classical music for even more contrast. :) And oh, shoot, a slow fade to the outside. They are so done for. Or...? :?

I almost missed the covid comment. I take it you fared well? How did it affect you if you don't mind me asking? I'm always looking for additional data points :).

Good point, I've just checked and it is the same in the sim. But, interestingly, I think they might roll, it seems a few pixels are moving, but it is almost impossible to say because the rims and the tires are without structure. Would it be complicated to make some landing scars for the tires, as it is from the rear wheels?
Edit: I've disabled anti-aliasing, and I do see some small bolts now on the front wheel, it rolls fine. The structure of the wheel just ends up being washed by the anti-aliasing, but if we could add some tire scratches, that would be nice too :)

I take it you fared well?

Yes, sorry for not saying, that was a bit off-topic, but I have time to test things... We (me, wife and kids) got it the lucky and easy way. A bit of cough, bit of chest pain, and total loss of smell, which is surprisingly arriving fast, like in a few hours. It's getting back very slowly after a week or so.

if we could add some tire scratches

Sure, I have some edits I want to do to some of the spring switches, especially the 3-way spring switches. I'll do some scratches on the tires when I push the spring switch changes.

off-topic

Yeah, so glad you all did OK!

@Eatdirt : good that you are ok !

@Wayne: for the 3 Way, is it the texture or the logic?
For the logic, I started to implement it for almost all the electrical switches ( see the last model.xml)
