Space Shuttle - Display adjustments (PFD, DPS, HUD,...)

Discussion about development and usage of spacecraft

Some news.
I changed a bit the font to have the same width for all the letter, it was a bit broken after conversion.
Now, it is much more easier to place precisely svg objects.

So, I went through all the previous changes to adjust it, and that was way quicker.

An example with multiple failures, everything well aligned (the ac volts is a mistake) with a precise and easy pattern to follow for any new failure implementation.
Symbology is now well on spot with SCOM and DPS pictionnary.

Also many small rework here and there.
Main one so far concerns the OMS burn forecast page.

LOAD command is flashing until a burn is loaded.
No informations of DV , TGT Apsis, and burn att until the burn is entered.

In OPS2, PEG 7 guidance only

Image

In OPS1/3, either PEG 4 or 7 ( one will blank the other)

PEG4 parameters entered

Image

Good iteration and convergence, DV value displayed in PEG 7 and LOAD stop flashing with all the target parameters in the bottom right

Image

End of burn, everything reset, except the remaining Delta Velocity, usefull for fine trimming.

Image

Also started the work on several other displays, as it far easier now with a good font with everthing at the same scale
Almost finish with the Univ pointing display

Great work. :D

Sorry for the OCD, but the line ends in the "UP" arrow in the "soft buttons" at the bottom of some screens misalign ever so slightly (in essence does not join in the corners).

Also the smudges and dust on the displays really add to the immersion. If I had not followed the progress over the years I would be sceptic if someone tried to sell some of those off as being screenshots (from a "free as in beer" simulator even).

Thanks Johan.
As you saw already, I took care of the arrow.
Strangely, when an object is drawn in one path only, it is much smoother.

I finished to play with the font, size, spacing etc and came up with precise coordinates to fill the 51 cells of a display ( like in the DPS dictionnary)
That will be much easier and way faster in the future to place an object into that grid with the modified SSU font

I spend now 30mn/ one hour max on a simple display .
You can see what I mean about the cell by comparing some of the displays below with the dps pictionnary cell ( from 1 to 51 at the top of display)

Not too much times, but still progressing.

I finished with the System GNV sum up pages.

PASS:

BFS ( Mainly addition of MPS parameters compared to PASS one):

I added some small things, like Up or Down deflection for Elevons, and Left/right for rudder/ailerons insted of +/-

During Night liftoff, with an engine failure, and MPS parameters on the BFS system sum up page

Also done with DAP config

I retouched for the last time OPS 1 and 6 using the last coordinate grid.
Happy with the result now

First Stage

Second Stage

RTLS OPS 6

In the mean time, almost finish all the GNC part

Spec 51 PASS and BFS

Spec 21 IMU

Spec 22 Star tracker and COAS

Spec 23 RCS option

I relearned a lot of small things by diving into the DPS pictionnary
Almost finish with the resize of every DPS pages.

I started with the last big part: OPS 3 entry drag lines and boundaries layout.Looking good so far.

The excellent FDM and systems coded are still a blast to me.
I am just ironing the visible part of the Iceberg :)

It is still a big iceberg to walk around on with that iron, and you are still going even after having slipped one or twice. :D

Yes, too much attention to details sometimes make the slip easier

I played with rendez vous today and related DPS, with clamped values ( all the 9999 here and there) to avoid mess with some high values like distance, etc when the target is not in a good rendez vous configuration.
Long time I didnt reach ISS, entertaining as always

Another mini blast:
I discovered a page that I had never used, Spec 25 Redundancy Management for Hand controllers.
Really useful to know what the Shuttle is doing when we are playing with the sticks in 6 axis of freedom.

Hmm, FlightGear and a > 21 in touch screen would be an interesting experience I think.

Not yet - which is my fault, because I am currently slow in reviewing the material GinGin provides due to a newborn daughter at home. We're working towards inclusion, I'm managing to review and merge a chunk now and then, so it'll come. :D
