ARR: EKVG (Vagar, Faroer)

May 16
DEP: EKVG (Vagar, Faroer)
ETE: unk
ARR: Keflavik (Island)

May 22
DEP: Keflavik (Island)
ETE: unk
ARR: (Bergen)

May 24
DEP (Bergen)
ETE unk
ARR: (Helsinki-Malmi)

May 28
DEP: (Helsinki-Malmi)
stated dest: Stockholm
Dep time: 12:21
details from webpage
ARR: Moscow

Feel free to add further knowledge

source et al. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathias_Rust

DONE:
- Register Callsign
- Leg-Test: EDDH-EDHE-EKVG

TODO (me)
 (could be done by some livery-expert?) Liverie (photo from Deutsches Museum), possibly to integrated in officiall C172P modell for others to see in multiplayer?
- Leg-Tests: Faroer-Island-Bergen-Helsinki-Leningrad-Moscow
- ETE estimations
- Navigation along the railway, getting NAV fixes and spotting sights
- Orientation in Moscow (look at own 2016 intel)
- Practice landing on Moscow bridge.

TODO - where do I need help?
 Realism: getting more realistic flightplan, schedule, fix/navpoints... what was the weather then?
 Models: MiG-23 : Having some MiG-23 show up: Can we have such a model? Is there an existing? Maybe a fake model flying another aircraft? Anyone interested on may 28 flying MiG-23 alongside?
- (not as important) SAM sites? Do we have PVT (Soviet style SAM Sites?), do we have models?
- What about documentary, event, live-stream?, report?, advertising?, announcement? - anyone gifted and interested?
- Camera man/UFO? Or post-processing the flighrecoder?
- Non-disturbing multiplayer support alongside?

Yours,
TeXnicer

you might approach the c172p dev team about this... the tools are available but then you have to get it into fgdata for it to be available for everyone to see...

pop in here: https://github.com/c172p-team/c172p
create a new issue explaining what you are looking for and why...
provide photos of the craft with the livery desired...
perhaps it will be accepted and done... i don't know... it depends on the time involved and whether someone has enough of it available...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Back on the street, there are remains where I found something that I couldn't find in either fgorg or the Buckaroo hangar. It is signed by Gary Nelly himself with thanks. I am happy to read the license and recognize the names of good fans and collaborators.

Even more it satisfies me to know, looking at these signatures, that fortunately no rats have entered since they prefer airliners, finally having so many cans accumulated was useful, for a terrible expense.

Rat link, yes I know. But clean of airliner rats.

I wrote an email in the hope of an answer:

Dear G(...) "Bockaroo",

it's 33 years now, when German SEP Pilot Mathias Rust flew from Hamburg, Germany via Island, Finland into the heart of Russia: Moscow. 28th May 1987.
I am planing to reenact this flight in flightgear to the date as far as possible.
See: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=37393&p=366989#p366989

Unfortunately Flightgear is lacking a MiG-23 model that are know to escort the flight at least partially.

Michat informed me that you mentioned a MiG-23 similarity; your 29 comes close to the model (at least a cockpit);
maybe it is possible to get at least a "mock-up" of an MiG-23 external maybe leaving the rest of your flyable 29?

Wikipedia article on the pilot and story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathias_Rust
My fgtracker, testing the first leg: https://fgtracker.ml/modules/fgtracker/ ... ID=7259754

Feedback will be appreciated very much!

Kind regards,
TeXnicer (...)

 Magic at work

This is gold, and why I already love to have it posted here. Thanks mate!
I would not have done it like this, and it would have cost me 10L coffee, my nerves, 2 day (minimum), an arm and a leg.

Any dice to get it into the official repo - so other can see it in Multiplayer or does it transfer automagically?

I highly doubt that livery still works since the c172p has been updated quite a lot since 2013. OTOH it'd be a pleasant surprise to prove me wrong on this point.
I am in possession of the original (graphic etc.) files used to create that livery. I'll try to pack and provide 'em for download tonight.

I plugged it in to the livery as is and it works fine. So I guess your good to go. Anyone participating needs to unzip it into the livery folder of their local c172p and they will be good to go.

That's good news!

Here's a documentary (german) with original footage from before and after the touch-down.

Slightly off topic, and waaay too in-depth, but here goes:

TeXnicer wrote:- (not as important) SAM sites? Do we have PVT (Soviet style SAM Sites?) [...]

I doubt we have the SAM sites or their classic star-shaped layouts. However, that data and capabilities of the various systems are readily available on the web if one know where to look:

TeXnicer wrote:[...] SAM sites? [...] do we have models?

As for East Block systems, we do have a SA-2 model and an surveillance radar, but no engagement radar.[3]

Might be better to add these as a scenario or as custom objects/scenery than to add them to TerraSync scenery, if they are to be added at all.

I guess this might be more interesting for the OPRF guys, in particular since there are some (active?) sites just to the west of "the box".[4]
____
[1] Probably the best source for information about East Block air defense systems.
[2] Imagery intelligence. In essence interpreting satellite and other imagery and corroborating it with other intelligence sources.
[3] The engagement radar would illuminate the target and guide the missile during an engagement.
[4] "The box" being Groom Lake (KXTA)/Area 51
