Graphics issues like: bad framerates, weird colors, OpenGL errors etc. Bad graphics ar usually the result of bad graphics cards or drivers.
Forum rules
In order to help you, we need to know a lot of information. Make sure to include answers to at least the following questions in your initial post.

- what OS (Windows Xp/Vista, Mac etc.) are you running?
- what FlightGear version do you use?
- what graphics card do you have?
- does the problem occur with any aircraft, at any airport?
- is there any output printed to the console (black window)?
- copy&paste your commandline (tick the "Show commandline box on the last page of FGRun or the "Others" section on the Mac launcher).
- please upload a screenshot of the problem.

If you experience FlightGear crashes, please report a bug using the issue tracker (can be also used for feature requests).
To run FlightGear on old computers with bad OpenGL support, please take a look at this wiki article. If you are seeing corrupted/broken textures, please see this article.

Note: If you did not get a reponse, even after 7 days, you may want to check out the FlightGear mailing lists to ask your question there.

There is no overhead light in PA28.

I just checked the PA-28 at night. It's got some weird stuff happening in the left window.
It does not appear to be a reflection.

I can see it in the daytime. It is ALS related.
ALS on = weird
ALS off = normal

So if the ALS is turned off does that turn of rain as well. Are you talking about the ALS in Rendering Menu

Edit: Yep that removed the 'weird'.

My downloaded version of the PA-28 does not have the weird, with or without ALS.
That is the pre-rain on windscreen version.

I am guessing then that the ALS was activated with updated, but of course I am only speculating. How do you manage to run an older version. In FGAdd on when a plane has an update it won't load unless you do update the plane.

You can use downloaded versions alongside installed versions.
When you start FG launcher, select Add-ons.
In that page will show where to put your downloaded aircraft.
It will show as "Additional aircraft folders".
If there is no entry there, you should be able to add a folder.
Put all your downloaded aircraft there.

Edit: When you select an aircraft in the launcher, the FGAddon aircraft will show as "installed".
The aircraft in your personal aircraft folder won't.

Not a very successful day. Landed without problem. Parked and was setting up a return flight and the sim just shut down. Happy days.

like most all modeling, it is craft-side... if your craft doesn't model reflections or shadows, you won't have them...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Thanks for that. It appears I am one of the lucky ones. Both a/c have just the right amount of reflection and shading.

What were you doing when it crashed? Mine did that the other day, and it ended up being a bad airport runway number in my route manager.
Guadeloupe TFFR changed runway numbers from rwy11 to rwy12. I tried to select the previously entered route that had rwy11, and it crashed the whole sim.

Edit: Being the lazy ass that I am, I opened the suspect route with a text editor and changed the departure runway from 11 to 12. Works fine now.

Could have been the runway I suppose. Back to ALS. It appears that the latest update has enable the ALS by default as the reflections were back this morning. During the day it's not a big issue but at night it is distracting and view restricting.

Thank you so much! Also for the constructive feedback :)
Robertfm wrote in Sun Mar 15, 2020 12:49 pm:Tim, the effect has only occurred since the update with the rain feature. I looked at the ALS link above and it would seem that these effects are not mutually inclusive. So the rain effects don't have to have the reflective effect. I also have to say if real planes have this much reflection at night then they are a positive danger when flying at night. The view to the sides is severely restricted.

The effect is included since I assigned the glass effect to the windows. This glass effect simulates as well rain as reflections etc.

Now, the reflections are correct to be there of course, I think there's no point in discussing this. What can be adjusted though is how bright they are at night, it's called "residual ambience" iirc, meaning the ambient light induced by mostly the interior illumination. You could e.g. have asked to tune it down, but nevermind.

Maybe I will look into making residual ambience correspond to the emitted light from the instruments etc., this is something that obviously needs to be implemented by the aircraft.

As I said in one of my posts turning off the lights completely had no effect. Perhaps the light from the Garmin 5 was enough, that can't be turned off. As for not asking you to tone it down, I think that was already mentioned by another poster but Thorsten seemed to indicate it couldn't be done, or of course I could have misinterpreted him. I certainly didn't mean to offend.

I just updated the PA28, the reflection now changes depending on instrument illumination and G5 on/off
