As I posted on other thread all is now well. I deleted the current version of PA28 and re-installed as Update facility gave an error message. All is working fine now. Thanks again.

Robertfm wrote in Sat Dec 28, 2019 10:21 pm:Have you given any thought to a Ground proximity warning system. I only ask because where I fly a lot in Scotland although I have the Sky Vector maps that have general mountains and hill heights I still get caught out when doing an approach descent when 50 or so NM's out. If I am actually with the flight at the time I have the HUD which shows AGL but it isn't audible.

I have just completed the radar altimeter audio alarm for the DHC-6-300+. I settled for a voice alarm that repeats "terrain" when you are lower than the altitude set in the radar altimeter decision height and higher than 50'. If you set the decision height to less than 50 feet, it disables the alarm.

I'll upload this new version DHC6P in a few.

Do you have an aircraft that has a radar altimeter?

The best way to tell is to look in Debug -> Browse internal properties
Select Instrumentation.
Is there a listing for radar-altimeter?
If so, select it. Are there entries there?

Edit: I can answer for the IDG PA28. It does not. It has an entry, but nothing assigned .

In the IDG PA28 there is an entry for Radar when I click on it it says debug mode = (none) & range = (none). So I guess that is not it. I will check other planes at the end of my current flight.

It will be
instrumentation/radar-altimeter/
There is an entry there, but nothing assigned. If it had one, it would have a floating point number there.

Did you see the other thread, the KAP140 whilst loading into IDG28 there is no display. The buttons operate the various functions as viewed in internals. I'm hoping Josh has a solution.

A radio-altimeter (or radar-altimeter) will be needed for GPWS.
The most small GA aircrafts dont have a GPWS.
If you need one for tests, the Citation II has a radio-altimeter and GPWS.

Surfer Tim, as we discussed previously I am now considering a Touch Screen Monitor for the two panels. You mentioned you have a 10 inch. I have measured the panels and both will not fit.

You can use just about any size touchscreen. I have a 7" RPi and a 10.1" HDMI Tinkerboard.

I have 4 monitors connected to my FG computer now. Three for flying, and one for recording control. None of those are touchscreens tho.

I realise that but the panels are fixed size (even with Radio stack at it's smaller setting) Both will not fit on a 10 inch screen, my wife has a 10.1 tablet which would be the same physical size of the monitor. Thanks anyway.

I understand now. You want both apps on one monitor. Is that correct?
You can use these in full screen mode, but that would be only one of them.

Edit: I don't use them full screen. I start all my apps before starting FG. I select which I want on the menu bar at the bottom.
My apps are on a separate computer using the UDP ports. You may not have that option.

BTW, I'm still kinda hoping that somebody can get Air Manager to give up their UDP package format.
I've been testing Python on my computer starting two threads. Each thread will do a print to the terminal how many iterations it has done.
It looks like about 200,000 iterations per second each.

I tried with Air Manager. When they discovered I had no financial or executive control at FlightGear, the conversation ground to a halt.

I really don't understand such a short sighted policy. It is a niche market so you would think a little cooperation would go a long way. However I have to say some comments I read from some 'developers' seem equally reluctant to cooperate. For some of us we just want to fly quality planes.

Re Monitor I am now considering a 22inch, the same size as my current front monitor, so the panels should fit as they do now together with the Phi map which of course I could then move with my left hand.

Re Pirate Panel, any chance of changing Donut for RPM Instrument. I only ask because most of RPM are out of pilot view with the planes I fly with the cockpit low for maximum clear view.

I understand it. Air Manager and companies like them (Logitech for another example) are used to dealing with for-profit corporations like Microsoft and X-Plane.

This is a community effort, at least that is how it has been presented to me. The challenge is, facing that mentality, who can deal with Air Manager?
