FlightGear crashing after Mac Software Update

Postby NewsDude » Fri Oct 11, 2019 4:44 pm

Hey, so FlightGear is now crashing for me. I just updated to the new Mac software recently released by Apple, MacOS Catalina (MacOS 10.15). I don't get any error or warning messages. FlightGear will begin to start up, but while it is "Initializing Subsystems", it will just crash. Is anyone else on a Mac experiencing this issue?

Works just fine on a clean install of Catalina. At least 2019.1.2 does:

Just tried installing and running 2019.1.2, and got a "FlightGear can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" message. It also had a "This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information" message.

what version of OS are you using? it might be worth filing a bug report on the tracker... the link is at the top of this and every forum page...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I'm having the same issue. It seems to be related to the MacOS 10.15 update.

Neither versions work for me, they both crash. I tried 2019.1.1 and 2019.1.2.

I filed a bug report, but so far haven't heard anything.

if that update is to Catalina, it breaks a LOT of stuff... a whole lot...

uh... i don't know what needs clarification... catalina breaks a lot of stuff...

32bit is no more
you have to install new xcode (which removes 32bit)
you have to use cocoa widgets because carbon widgets were removed

there are more but those are the initial coding related ones that i'm aware of...

Oh. I didn't realize that Catalina made 32bit obsolete.

How is that related to FlightGear? The program launches, so it's obviously 64-bit.

The problem is after you click "fly".

It launches if you had the program downloaded before the Catalina update. If you try to delete and reinstall FlightGear, it won't work.

at the risk of going (further?) off topic, here's a couple of links that might explain a little more about the catalina update problems... the second link is included in the article of the first link...

just posting for those that might be interested...

I had an older version installed prior to the update, 2018.3.2, which didn't work after the update. I upgraded, and none of the current versions work for me under Catalina. I've tried 2019.1.1, 2019.1.2, and 2019.2.

Hi,

I didn't upgrade to the Catalina because I think my MacBook Air is too old for it, so I can't confirm about the breakage of FG on new systems. However, I have a vague memory that FG has been 64 bit for quite a long time. I think it is necessary to post this to the mailing list after the breakage is confirmed to let the core developers know about this issue, as this is quite a crucial problem I think?

If no one is doing it, I'll be happy to post it on the list after I get more spare time.

Kind regards,
Sidi
