jMapView issue

Postby hellothere22 » Mon Oct 07, 2019 6:09 pm

Hello,
I've been playing flightgear for a while but I can't track my plane's position during flight, unless, I activate the Map Canvas OBM, which, due to newtork issues, isn't doable every quarter of time.
I've tried to use Atlas but I found out it was too complicated, displayed too many errors and generally blocked when i tried to make maps with the console.
After a while, I came across Atlas' cousin, jMapView which looks fair simpler... this time, though, i can't do anything with it. after i start it, it brings me to a loading map screen.. if i try to search for any airports, it gets stuck, no matter what.
I hope You can help me, because I'd really love to fly with a better monitoring.
I apologize in advance for the eventual wrong place to publish this, I thought it was better here and for my English, I'm not a native speaker.

Start fgfs with option: --httpd=5500
In your internet browser enter URL: http://localhost:5500/gui/map/

(5500 is the port it uses, if that one is already taken, try another one.)

For online flying there are other maps, too, like http://mpmap02.flightgear.org/v3/

why would you do that? FG is the server in this case ;)
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

That's what you have to do, no JMapView involved at all. I don't think that's still a thing, even though the wiki says "Active (2009-)" 'about its development status.

If you have a second PC or a tablet or such attached to your local network, you can use its browser to display the map. Then you have to replace "localhost" with the IP or name of the PC you run FG on. And make sure no firewall is blocking port 5500.

yup! that's using Phi for the map... you also don't have to use port 5500... you can use almost any other as long as it is not already in use on your machine... the key is to tell FG which port to use for the web server and then tell your browser which port the FG web server is using...
