[SOLVED] : Elevation difference betwen reality & scenery!

Postby Amirreza Shakeri » Thu Sep 05, 2019 8:57 pm

Hello.

I don't know why there is a 50 meters difference between the scenery which i am working on, and reality.
I checked many airports and well-known mountains in my town. These all had this 50 meters difference in elevation.

Is that normal !!??

Thanks in Advance.

it is normal when there's a 50 meter fault in the raw data numbers... remember, all of this is simply raw numbers in a database... these numbers come from various detection devices... some are more sensitive than others...

kinda like satellite photos... some can detect a pack of cigarettes sitting on a black table (fine resolution) but others may simply show a slightly lighter gray coloring on the table with nothing discernible (low resolution)...

does that make sense to you?
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Thank you wkitty.
Yes. Ofcourse that does.

But you know. The point is that i have two source of data. One of them is the pre compiled scenery which i downloaded form official flightgear scenery that used in simulation.
The other one is elevation data that i downloaded form viewfinderpanoramas.org ( as you know this is the site which flighgear used to make scenery file).
But surprisingly i discovered that altitude difference between two data sources is 400 meters.
I've been confused!!!

At first i mosaiced terrain tiles using ArcGis.
Apparently mosaicing tiles changes elevation data values which is undesirable.
