Nice looking aircraft unfortunately it won't start. Anyone any ideas. There is no auto start shown, I tried 's' and also using key but it won't start although it turns over.

that's one of helijah's craft... YASIM FDM... updating FG to the nearest sharp edge of development... will try the craft and see what i can see...

[time passes]

no problem starting it... never been in it before... here's what i did...

first was to CTRL-C so i could see the click spots... then
in the middle of the cockpit down low, click the magneto switch to both, to the left of the magneto switch click the sideways lightning bolt to turn on the electric, left of that, click to turn on the generator/alternator, on the right side of the magneto switch push the red knob (throttle) in a little bit... i did pull the blue knob out a tad but may not have needed to... then i hit 's' and she fired right up...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

i guessed at them as i went through them... it started but i didn't try to fly... i did have to hit the 'B' to set the brake, though... she was rolling once i got it started and i was still zoomed in on the dashboard :)

The Ryan Navion starts and fly nicely. Yes, the breaks are released at session start (should i fix it?).

Correct starting procedure:
1.) make sure the prop feather is full in (blue knob)
2.) make sure the mixture is full in (red knob)
3.) make sure the throttle is only a liitle bit in (black knob)
4.) turn on electric switch
5.) turn the key to BOTH
6.) turn and hold the key full right to START (key 's' works also)
7.) if the engine is running, release the key (or release the 's' key)
8.) turn on the generator switch

In real, after starting you should warm up the engine 5 minutes on 800 rpm.
After warm up, advance to 1500 rpm and test both magneto. It should not drop below 1200 rpm.
If all works well, switch back to both magneto and you are ready to fly.

Thanks for the fuller starting procedure. It would be helpful if brake was applied by default, but not a big deal, I have a brake button on my yoke.

Another issue I'm finding is the lack of climb speed, rarely gets above 50 knots when I use pitch set at 8. As soon as I level off the speed climbs quite happily. The Rich/Lean setting seems to have little effect until the bottom 25% and that then reduces speed.

The Navion has by default a Continental E-185-9 engine with 205 hp max.
You can change to the Super Navion in the launcher witch has a Lycoming GO-435-C2 engine with 260 hp max.
Therefor, the Super Navion has a greater climb rate.

I have only inserted the mixture in the yasim file. I dont know how YAsim calculate it and i'm not a pilot, so i have no experience how that should behave in real.
It will be nice if a real pilot can tune the setting in the yasim file.

Sorry don't understand how to do this 'You can change to the Super Navion in the launcher witch has a Lycoming GO-435-C2 engine with 260 hp max'. It's still a great little plane to fly in the sim.

The entry In the launcher has a picture on the left side and a title and short description on the right side.
If you click on the title 'Ryan Navion (YAsim)' you can choose between the 'Ryan Navion' and the 'Ryan Super Navion 260'.

That was easy. Flying Super today. It still struggles to get above 55knots when climbing. Another question if I may what are the 3 vertical small lights White Orange Blue at the very top of the panel. The orange one flashed as I was landing. Is this height warning or some form of locator.

Bit late as the centre one started to flash as I was about to touch down. Hence I thought it may be altitude warning.

The trim wheel label is labeled backward; however, it works correctly. Rotate the wheel up to trim the nose down. You should then be able to establish a reasonable climb speed.
The 160 HP model will climb 700 fpm at 80 Knots. :)
