Can you modify the 84 block and make the first square on the left 82, the next two squares 83, and then 84?

that is:
82 -- 84 -- 84 -- 84 -- 84 -- 84 -- 84 -- 82
becomes:
82 -- 82 -- 83 -- 83 -- 84 -- 84 --84 -- 82


And could you make the 83 segment on the left treshold 84m as well (83.5 is closer to 84m)?

Which 83 segment? The one next to the 82?

The 83 segment would be the one on the left at the 08 end with 82m on both sides.

And not quite, I would want 82 - 82 - 82 - 84 - 84 - 84 although now that I think of it 82 - 82 - 82 - 83 - 84 - 83 might be better.

Is your bulldozer documented or available for other users ?
I assume it is a hgt file editor of some sort and looks very useful.

I just finished this brutally simple version of the bulldozer. This was actually it's first test.

It is comprised of Python, Qt and Silx. It's just an editable array (1201x1201) of 16 bit integers. The challenge I have with releasing it is the maths required to convert a decimal fraction of a degree to the appropriate cell number. I would also like to get away from the Silx toolkit and go strictly (directly) to Qt tools.

Until now I had never heard of Silx, but there are so many new tools cropping up these days. It is difficult to chose the most appropriate one to spend learning time.
The maths question is a good one. When I learnt FORTRAN in the 1960´s, one of our first set of exercises was to write some subroutines that could add subtract ,mutilply and divide amounts of money. At that time in the UK we still had pounds , shillings and pence. A pound was divided into 20 shillings, which was in turn divided into 12 pence. Each penny (plural pence) could then be divided into 4 farthings. The multiply and divide subroutines had to perform rounding to the nearest farthing. Fortunately the UK went decimal before computers became more popular.
I do not see latitude and longitude being decimalised in the near future.

The devel email list may be useful for discussing your maths and Qt problems.

What fraction? If the hgt file includes 1200x1200 cells (1201x1201 vertices) and cover 1° in longitude and latitude, a sqare represent 3" in longitude and latitude.
3" x 1200 = 3600" = 60' = 1°
in fractional: 3" = (1/3600)*3 = 1/1200 = 0,0008333°

If you mean other fractions, please let us know. There are some people here who can explain it.
