Papi Lights

On my previous system the lights were clearly visible from the 6nm marker. Now I am lucky to see at 3nm. My system has a
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB GDDR5 graphics card. Are there any settings I can alter.

Do you have point sprites enabled? Is ALS enabled?

I'll check the sprites but I think they are. I use AP combined with Route manager & Nav 1 set where available.

ALS is nothing to do with the autopilot or route manager - see View > Rendering > Atmospheric Light Scattering

Actually there are two ALS Approach Lighting System & Light Scattering, the light scattering is on as is the sprite lighting. I wasn't sure which you meant.

Showing a screenshot of the issue might help diagnosing it?

All a screen shot will show from 6nm is the runway @ 3nm a patch of white (lights) That's it when I get about a mile away I can see different colours but very faded. Imagine the difference between a 100 watt bulb and a 25 watt bulb.

On my laptop there was absolute clarity.

A screenshot would, among other things, show whether pointsprites work and how the visibility conditions generally are.

How far you get to see a light depends on multiple factors, including amount of fog and scene brightness - and the chosen rendering scheme and sprite vs. dot selection.

If there was 'absolute clarity' on your laptop, it probably was wrong, lights aren't supposed to show with absolute clarity under all conditions.

All the various flight videos I have watched whether Flightgear or FSX Papi lights are pretty clear. For example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Luxn_aTn6Ck 8 mins in.

Okay - apparently you don't need any help since you know how everything is supposed to work anyway and you don't see the need to give us a screenshot.

At least I have no clue how linking a video you have watched helps us to diagnose what may or may not be wrong on your system - but maybe you know that.

Well, yeah, FSX isn't exactly known for realistic graphics when it comes to lighting and rendering.

It really sounds like sprites were turned off on your laptop - is that correct?

As far as I recall the sprites were on. Are you saying you get better clarity with them off. Others have said to have them on in other forum posts.

I have posted one screen shot but forgot to turn off other screens I will shortly post another.

You may get better clarity but it will look like big blobs - neither pretty nor realistic.
