Plane Taking Off Automatically

Postby Robertfm » Wed May 15, 2019 2:11 pm

I am experiencing an issue where all small planes I fly will roll down runway and then take off without any input from my Saitek Yoke. Is this flaps being deployed altitude speed being set or something wrong with Yoke.

As you gain speed your lift will increase so you will eventually takeoff depending on where your elevator trim is set. However, I believe this behaviour in the Cessna 172 has been reduced in the latest version (will be released with 2019.2) :)

I actually most fly Piper 28A, I don't get on with the Cessna although I assume it will be the same. The Piper doesn't seem to have a trim wheel but I have a but set to trim on the Yoke.

This is a normal behavior on a real aircraft.

Sometimes, you must push the yoke to keep the aircraft on the runway and prevent "auto taking off" with a dangerously low speed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_effect_(aerodynamics)

Check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ga603WA68 In my opinion, the pilot allowed the aircraft to "auto take off" without enough airspeed. The ground effect produced enough lift to climb during the first meters, but after 5 meters or so the airspeed wasn't enough to maintain the aircraft in the air.
