Bombardier QSeries

Postby D-ECHO » Sat Apr 27, 2019 10:50 am

Good day!
Originating from the Q400(-jsb) model available since some time in FGAddon, there is now the Bombardier QSeries available in FGAddon!

Models included:
    Q100 (DHC8-102) --aircraft=q100-jsb
    Q200 (DHC8-202) --aircraft=q200-jsb
    Q300 (DHC8-301) --aircraft=q300-jsb
    Q400 (DHC8-402) --aircraft=q400-jsb

Please report any bugs or problems you encounter and have fun :)

Special thanks to Alex Park (original DHC8), Florian K (wonderful 3d-model originally for the Q400), it0uchpods (a LOT of help with the FDM, autoflight, canvas and advisory :) ) and to those I forgot ;)

I haven't downloaded from there for a while. What is the address and procedure please?

I went here:

https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/fg ... t/QSeries/

I downloaded "snapshot" and got this folder:

flightgear-fgaddon-r3907-trunk-Aircraft-QSeries

Then what do I do? I get a crash if I select Q400 (only option), and if I edit the folder to just say "QSeries" I also get a crash when launching.

Searching for "q400" in the launcher and then installing only gives me one option (the 400) and it won't autostart.

Didn't find it via launcher, either. Neither in mirrors.ibiblio.org/flightgear/ftp/aircraft, nor in .../aircraft-2018.

Just downloading from D-ECHO's github page: https://github.com/D-ECHO/QSeries

After several flight hours with the predecessor Q400, I am very much looking forward to the finally published QSeries. Thanks a lot D-ECHO and team. It will take me some time to look deeper into it, I will report my experiences in due time.

i doubt they'll be on ibiblio yet... the craft were just added... IIRC, the update script is only run at specific times when release/RC branches are cut...

i also cannot imagine them appearing in aircraft-2018 since it is now 2019 and the craft are new to the system... especially if they may be using features or capabilitities that do not exist in versions of FG older than 2019.1...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

This one works!

Thanks!

Welcome :)

Oswald: adding to wkitty's response: it is fine getting the aircraft from my git repo as well, but please note that this may include unstable versions, FGaddon one usually is more stable

Wow, I missed the original post, nice. Looks great and really nice to see it in fgaddon!

Okay, downloaded today via FGAddOn. First flight with Q200, appears to work.

I’m having problems where the Nav screen on the Q400 is static (won’t rotate when the aircraft turns/rotates and hdg stays at 0 degrees) but waypoints and routes from route manager show up. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Apart from this small issue aircraft is great.

rjrm, thank you very much for your feedback. To help you, I will need a little more information:
1) Where did you download the aircraft from?
2) Are you starting on the ground or in air and did you reposition the aircraft (in-sim dialog)?
3) Are there any errors in the console?
Regards

Thanks for the quick reply.

I downloaded the aircraft from the Github page and the aircraft is starting on the ground (also haven't re positioned the aircraft).

Errors in the console:

Nasal runtime error: File not found: Aircraft/IDG-A32X/Models/Instruments/Common/res/du-tesy.svg
at C:/Program Files/FlightGear 2018.3.2/data/Nasal/canvas/svg.nas, line 20
called from: C:/Users/username/Desktop/AIRCRAFT/QSeries/Models/Cockpit/Instruments/ND/canvas/ND.nas, line 151, 164 & 251.

Nasal runtime error: File not found: Aircraft/787-9/Models/Instruments/HUD/HUD.svg
at C:/Program Files/FlightGear 2018.3.2/data/Nasal/canvas/svg.nas, line 20
called from: C:/Users/username/Desktop/AIRCRAFT/QSeries/Models/Cockpit/Instruments/HUD/HUD.nas, line 149, 432 & 629
called from: C:/Program Files/FlightGear 2018.3.2/data/Nasal/global.nas, line 119

Edit: Solved the issue by downloading the aircraft causing the issue.

If anyone is interested, I have redone the flybe liveries, including 'new' livery on G-JECP.

Message me so I can send the repaints.

rjrm,
That does not solve it, I will let D-ECHO know about this SERIOUS error. If any of those planes change anything, it will screw over this plane.

First, I would like to say thanks to all who have contributed to this project.

Now that the nav screen has been 'fixed' and I have flown the aircraft properly, there are a few things that don't quite seem right.

(I have only flown the Q400, so this only applies to this aircraft)

Firstly, the nose steering is like driving on ice and makes single engine taxiing very difficult.

Secondly, I've noticed that when trying to taxi with the right engine, the left condition lever seems to control both engines.

Thirdly, when climbing after reducing the props to 900 rpm, the aircraft seem to lack power and takes twice as long to get to FL250 than an actual Q400, (e.g. A Q400 can climb from 0 to FL100 in about 5 mins).

Lastly, if anyone is interested, I have modified the sound system so sound more realistic using engine recordings from the Q400, although I can't remember when I downloaded these .wav files and would need to find suitable replacements to use with permission of the owner.

Thanks
