3 Sim comparison. FlightGear, X-Plane 11, FSX - Ice Ice baby

3 sim comparison - ice and snow. FlightGear and X-Plane 11 were recorded using live weather ( one after the other so the same METAR was valid ). FSX I had to use Winter season and the winter wonderland scenario. Test location BGJN Greenland.
No Paid or additional addons on ether sim. Sittings used are only from the basic out the box sim in each case. Freeware choppers used.
First up is FligtGear, 8:35 XP11, 15:00 FSX

I have to say, x-plane's (external view) snow effects are outstanding.

Only bit I though was better was the snow blowing over the runway.
FSX had nothing to offer at all.

I liked the exterior view gentle snowfall in FlightGear, fluffy looking snow.

Just from the screen shot in the YT video, I noticed in X-Plane the sun's reflection on the water is fat too overdone for such an overcast and snowy day. The water should be a reflection the gray clouds above it. That's one thing FG has over all the other sims is the water's color to overhead ambient light.

With default out of the box weather engine is snow and rain poorly depicted in FSX. Free FSXWX weather addon is far better, but still not as good as FG.

Yeah, the overall winner is FlightGear! (I mean "overall winner", not that "FlightGear is the winner of an overall" :) )
Noticable too, that FSX tells you "Too low! Flaps!" while you're in a chopper!

Senseless messages seem to be a common theme in Micro$oft products though...
