Beech 99 renewed

Postby Kcid » Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:58 am

I've also posted on the dev mailinglist, but for who is not on there, I'm currently building a new 3d model for the Beech 99.
The outside is almost finished. I'm planning to finish it up next week including animations and texturing etc.
2 WIP screenshots can be seen here:

If you have any questions or remarks, please let me know.

Hi Dick,

just some thoughts:

1. The real aircraft deserves it to be better represented in FlightGear - with your new 3D-model, panel and improved flightmodel. thank you!

2. Your work looks already very nice and promising

3. Don't save some vertices where they need to be. Actual graphic-cards and PCs don't slow down with higher numbers of vertices - some tenthousand more don't hurt. Big texture-sizes, a lot of transparencies and reflecting surfaces are frame-rate killers.
It would be nice to have ie. nice round tires - look at some newer FlightGear a/c with really nice performance, though.

I've updated the screenshots with my recent updates:
New wings and propellers. movable ailerons, a finished fuselage and a new wheel.

Hi Dick,

this is a big improvement compared to your first model and a very nice 3D-model now.

As a predecessor of the B 1900D in our hangar it would be of great interest as a cargo version, this is the part it plays in real life now.
But however, with your work this aircraft will get around to glory again within FlightGear :D

Thanks a lot

Hy again.

I've updated the Beech 99 some more and textured it for most parts except the Rudder part, so don't pay attention to that ;)
I've just finished some new engines, they are not finished yet (bottom and exhaust)
I expect the exterior to be finished tomorrow, then I'll start on the interior.

Awsome dude, I like the new Beech 99.
But how come you don't put Img tags around the link of the image so it will show the image in the post?

If I put it in between image badges then everybody who reads the post opens the picture and I already use high bandwith on my website, so thats what I did it like this ;)

I've updated the Beech 99 some more, the exterior is now finished and I've started on the interior, so the floor and cockpit sides are also already in. Here's a new screenshot: http://www.kcid.nl/planes/beech99_new4.jpg

When I have the cockpit finished I'll start animating everything.
Does somebody have any good pictures of the top of the cockpit of a Beech 99??

Heliflyer,

Am I correct that you work at a place with a Beech 99?
Could you make pictures of the cockpit, I'm building it in 3d and want to make it as real as possible in terms of switches and stuff.

Hi Dick

As a predecessor of the B 1900D in our hangar it would be of great interest as a cargo version

This might be the reason for the misunderstanding, with "in our hangar" I did not mean real life but FlightGear.
Sorry for that, I could only serve with nice pics of a BK 117 helicopter, but this is not our common interest at the moment.
I really would enjoy a Beech 99 for FG :)

You might have a better chance if you ask on the developers mailing list, as there are a lot of real life fixed wing pilots ...
