what are you using for your build environment?
there is no repo flightgear-2018.3.2 that i'm aware of...
you generally do not point to the .git directory... you point to the directory that contains the .git directory...

I'm using gcc 8.2.1 on ArchLinux.
The package is downloaded from downloads.sourceforge.net.
The directory is a local one where I compile every AUR-package I need.
What about fgrcc? Using it as root gets the same error message.
I got the errors with 2018.2.1too . . .

Are you using the AUR PKGBUILD, download_and_compile.sh or other build script?
There are free alternatives to (almost) every program you encounter. You just have to find them.
