I want to make a B737 MAX. I need tips/help

Postby I LUV FG » Sat Aug 15, 2015 10:17 pm

I have several questions about making an aircraft for FG:
[1] What is the best FREE software to make the 3d model?
[2] what is the best FDM?
[3] How long would it take to make this?
[4] Is there any coding involved with this? If there is I'm afraid I won't do it (unless someone partners up with me of several people do and help me with that xD)
[5] More questions will come as I get more answered

I love the new 737 MAX and think it would be rlly cool to add in FG!

1. Blender
2. Yasim is easier but jbsim is much better. They even have a generator so if you have a lot of aerodynamic data jbsim can start you off
3. A long time
4. I guess I could do .xmling?

But why not work on the 737NG? Its really bad, plus it really exists both IRL AND IN FG

Ok, go to http://www.github.com/FGMEMBERS/737NG and download it. Put it in data/Aircraft
It should be inside Models cockpit.ac or something

Note blender will not open a .ac you need to convert it to a .blend

If you need help with liveries, I can help. I can not code with c++. I can work with .xml files for the liveries. that's it.

[1] What is the best FREE software to make the 3d model?

Depends on you really - pick any you like and take a week to learn it (personally, I never seem to find what I need in blender, so I much preferred a leaner tool, had ac3d once and that worked better for me)

[2] what is the best FDM?

The one into which you put a lot of research to fill it with actual data. If you know aerodynamics, you'll find JSBSim quite comfortable, if you do not you'll likely produce rubbish and are better off using YaSim.

[3] How long would it take to make this?

A good plane - some 100 hours. Not including the time you learn the tools.

A great plane - easily 1000+ hours.

[4] Is there any coding involved with this?

Yes, but given the time it takes to create a great plane, the time you spend learning whatever tool you need is a minor correction - even if you sit a month learning how to code Nasal and canvas, it won't be that much overall.

But the advantage is - you can always start simple, create something flyable, keep working on it and improving it. And you'll always find people willing to help you out with specifics if you have something that needs to be improved - be it effects, AP design, avionics, liveries,... But you need something to show before you can recruit others to your cause :D

Hi..
I agree with Josh.
737ng is very incomplete, you should practically start from scratch.
The best thing would be to work with my 737 800YV and turn it into a 737MAX, but keep in mind that it is still in development and needs a better cockpit and better systems, but it is the only 737 most advanced and worked of this simulator. If you need any help, ask freely.
Here is the link of 737 800YV: https://github.com/YV3399/737-800YV

I have looked into the 737 max. It looks like the 737 max cockpit screens shares similar characteristics with the boeing 787 cockpit screens. Maybe use the 787 cockpit and keep the 737NG overhead panel.
