Crowd Funding for Infrastructure costs

Postby stuart » Mon Jun 11, 2018 2:29 pm

Hi All,

As some of you may be aware, Torsten Dreyer has been paying for a significant part of the FlightGear infrastructure from his own money (as well as being the Release-meister).

With the increasing userbase, there has been an increase on the workload on the infrastrucure. The first victim was the multiplayer map server mpmap03.flightgear.org which is hosted in the AWS cloud and was shut down due to a hit of the budget limit. Our other server at scenery.flightgear.org was down for a period due to massive abuse. To keep these pieces of infrastructure running, Torsten has to find a way to cover some of the costs.

From a post on the -devel list by Torsten :

I have tentatively added a small "donate" button to the mpmap03.flightgear.org site which links to my https://liberapay.com/t3r page. It has been created for the sole purpose of funding the FlightGear infrastructure costs. (Thanks, Parnikkapore for the link!) It accepts EUR and US$ and my goal is to raise 10EUR per week. This will cover approxy half of the current total costs of operating for the full stack.

At time of writing, he's reached €7.99 of his €10 goal. If you have the ability to do so, and value the services these provide, I would encourage you to contribute.

Thanks,

-Stuart

Not the best time to spend for me, but I'll chip in at least something starting next month.

Thanks to the generosity of FGer's, Torsten has already passed his target of €10 per month, which is great.

It might make sense to add a link to this to the help/about dialog or a dedicated "Support" dialog to help with infrastructure hosting
Please don't send support requests by PM, instead post your questions on the forum so that all users can contribute and benefit
Thanks & all the best,
