Bug: Engine shutoff in flight

Postby Lydiot » Sat Jun 09, 2018 5:54 pm

This one is weird. I tried the following;

Boeing 777 flying level, full thrust (manual, not auto), no flaps, about 250kts.
Turn off left engine to simulate engine failure.

What happens is that the plane appears to hold the amount of thrust even if I then bring it down to zero. I can see the meters of the good engine, the right one, drop to zero. But still I maintain airspeed and altitude. It's essentially "impossible" to land now because as I descend I pick up speed. Airbreaks seem to do nothing to help.

But;

Boeing 777 flying level, full thrust (manual, not auto), no flaps, about 250kts.
Bring thrust to zero.
Turn off left engine to simulate engine failure.

Now I drop altitude like I would expect to.

This seems like a but, and something similar happened to me with the MD-11.

Can someone confirm?

The 777 uses yasim, which as far as I know doesn't simulate engine shutdown in flight properly.
