So it appears that you can execute programs from storage and data directories.

i've just noticed that the error reported and the filename given are different... the error report says "OpenRadar.jar" but the file name is "openradar.jar"... CaSe Is SiGnIfIcAnT...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

The file still opened and then gave me the error when using the proper case.

ok so are we understanding correctly?
    1. you downloaded the openradar.zip file into a directory
    2. you went into that directory and unzipped the openradar.zip contents (openradar.jar) into that same directory
    3. you did the chmod to add the executable attribute to the newly unzipped jar file
    4. attempted to start the jar with "java -jar <file>.jar"
    5. you get the error about not being executable
is that all correct?

can you also post the version of your java?
Code: Select all
$ java -version

java version "1.7.0_171"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.13) (7u171-2.6.13-0ubuntu0.14.04.2)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.171-b02, mixed mode)
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

This is starting to sound like a disk stability issue. Could you scan your disk and check for bad sectors? It's probably not the case, but the errors you see are also no common.

in your initial report, you said you "extract the zip and open the jar"... what do you mean by "open the jar"?? do you mean looking inside it??

ok... that's really weird, though... surely there are other mac users running openradar?

What if you download the OpenRadar.jar file directly rather than the zip file? I'm unfortunately out of ideas.

and that's after opening a terminal and changing directory to the downloads area?

Code: Select all
cd /Users/Neodex/Downloads/OpenRadar
chmod +x OpenRadar.jar
java -jar OpenRadar.jar

what does "doesn't work" mean? what error(s) do you get if you follow my command sequence above?

Maybe there.is a test Java .jar file somewhere that can be used to check if your Java is set up correctly?
