Hi,

to install the MDF4 in (the ec145 !) aircraft model just add

Code: Select all
   <model>
     <name>MFD 4</name>
      <path>Aircraft/ec145/Models/instruments/EUcopter-mfd/mfd3.xml</path>
      <offsets>
         <x-m>-2.75</x-m>
         <y-m>-0.277</y-m>
         <z-m>0.34</z-m>
         <pitch-deg>-14</pitch-deg>
      </offsets>
   </model>

to your instrument.xml (or whatever your flightdeck or instrument panel definition file is). Adjust x,y,z, pitch and path settings to your needs.

Note 1: mfd0.xml = MFD1, ..., mfd3.xml = MFD4

Note 2: Integration in other aircraft is in fact not so trivial as all the paths in the panel files need to be adjusted to a new location. I have a version with files located at "Aircraft/Instruments-3d/EUcopter-mfd" that make integration more easy.

Stuart,

I have made a first version of the ECP model and switch animations and connected it to the engine code in bk117.nas. Also added some more engine- and fuel pump- specific caution messages in the masterlist. Download ECP package here : https://www.dropbox.com/s/3trwan8se6new9m/EC145ECP.zip?dl=1

Image

However, some issues remain: The colors of the model are not correctly displayed in fg as in they are in blender. The simulation result is not always plausible, e.g. when quickly flipping both engine switches into flight position, setting the respective variables, n2 turbine speed increases beyond rotor speed NR, which seems impossible. Also to implement "dry cranking" correctly (running the starter without ignition to cool the engine via "VENT" button) is not really possible with the current engine code.

I will investigate a bit further what needs to be done to produce a more plausible simulation of engine parameters.

V1.1 is out and has a huge number of changes from the previous version. see first post for details.

Great!

When I merged with my recent changes I found that on Linux, in ec145-set.xml

Code: Select all
           <file>Aircraft/ec145/Models/Instruments/kns80/KNS80.nas</file>

should be

Code: Select all
            <file>Aircraft/ec145/Models/instruments/kns80/KNS80.nas</file>

I though I had fixed all the case issues. That one must have slipped though.

Stuart

I am currently working to improve the autostart and autoshutdown procedures to work nicely together with the engine control panel. For this i will need to touch the engine code in bk117.nas .

Is there a risk to interfere with somebody elses (con)current work in this file?

No. Current upgrades are done. Nothing even planned yet for the next level.

Stuart,

here are the annouced changes to the engine code:

- autostart and autoshutdown sequences to work with ECP switches (if someone is wondering: press middle mousebutton on engine main sw. to manually switch from IDLE to OFF position)
- OEI training mode (press "Training" button on ECP)
- Modelled the engine n1/n2 dynamics and fuel system, more complex engine model for spoolup and under different flight conditions (see details below)
- all three tanks (2 supply tanks!) and fuel pumps according to manual (tank levels are also displayed on VMD)
- modelled target NR according to manual (see comments below)
- added FLOATS ARMED message to masterlist

download link (contains just changed files)

Comments on changes in engine code

In general the dynamics of n1/n2 and consequently NR during flight were not well reproduced by the bk117.nas Nasal code as all were kept at 100% at all times.

I found these Youtube videos https://youtu.be/7fTeLxnIG_s , https://youtu.be/d-1z-2H6_iE where n1,n2 and trq dynamics on a EC145 in various flight conditions can be observed.

- the idle n2 datum should be around 78%, not 63% as it has been.
- n1 in flight should be something around 88% and should increase with power demand (I used collective position as a first approximation -> reused the out-commented "droop compensator").
- NR datum ("target" in Yasim notation) should not be constant 100%, but modulate between 96%..106% depending on airspeed and pressure altitude, according to the aircraft manuals I found on the internet.
- Also, NR is expected to "droop" a bit during fast transient power demand, especially in OEI training mode. The old Nasal code supplied max. power to the Yasim FDM at any time, keeping NR rock-steady at 100%.

I have adapted the engine code in bk117.nas, to derive the power made available to Yasim (/controls/rotors/maxreltorque) from n1 and use the Yasim calculated rotor speed in turn as feedback and sync's the engines n2 with it, depending on the engines states.

It is certainly NOT a full fledged engine model but in my trials I found it is able to reproduce typical engine parameters under certain flight conditions and during engine spoolup quite well.

wait a day or so, just found that I created a mess with pathnames in the updated files.
