I'd love to see Focke/Wulf Fw 190D-9 Dora

Hi

I'd love to see Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 Dora I think it's a great plane and a piece of history too. Anyone who is capable to start developing the aircraft have a same idea? :)

The ninth incarnation of the Fw 190 D series (with what exactly happened to codes D1 – D8 being something of a mystery), nicknamed Dora, is generally considered to be the best propeller-driven WWII German fighter at mid-to-low altitudes and by many modern warbird enthusiasts, it’s considered to be the most attractive. One of the biggest changes from earlier FW 190 models was the Jumo 213A inline engine, and transitioning away from the bulky, open radial style to the more aerodynamic domed cone-shaped nose. Instead of focusing on armor and heavy caliber artillery (which is not to say it didn’t have any; the Fw 190 D-9 was equipped with two cowl-mounted 13mm MG 131 heavy machine guns, as well as two 20mm MG 151/20 autocannons in the wingroot, with all four weapons synchronized to fire through the propeller arc), the Fw 190 D-9 excelled in maneuverability and speed. In addition to the impressive speed, it had superior climb rates and generally handled better than both its predecessors and enemy competitors, proving to be a strong opponent to the P-51s and later model Spitfires.

Design Characteristics for the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9

Length 33 feet, 5.5 inches (10.2 m)
Wingspan 34 feet, 5 inches (10.51 m)
Height 11 feet (3.35 m)
Wing Area 197 feet2 (18.3 m2)
Empty Weight 7,694 lbs. (3490 kg)
Loaded Weight 9,413 lbs. (4270 kg)
Max Take-off Weight 10,670 lbs. (4840 kg)

Performance Specs for the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9

Max Speed (21,655 feet / 6,600 m) 426 mph (685 km/h)
Max Speed (36,000 feet / 11,000 m) 440 mph (710 km/h)
Range 519 miles (835 km)
Service Ceiling 39,370 feet (12,000 m)
Rate of Climb 3,300 fpm (17 m/s)
Wing Loading 47.7 lb/ft² (233 kg/m2)

D-9 without engine sealing - 15 km/h; with ETC 504 + fixed wheel covering about -10 km/h. This indicates that the D-9 reached the following speeds - minimum: (1561 hp)

606 km/h (377 mph) at sea level with MW 50 injection and engine sealing; without ETC 504 and variable wheel covering.
591 km/h (367 mph) at sea level with MW 50 injection; without engine sealing, ETC 504 and variable wheel covering.
581 km/h (361 mph) at sea level with MW 50 injection, ETC 504 and fixed wheel covering; without engine sealing.

With 1900 PS engine set up:

578 km/h (359 mph) at sea level without engine sealing and variable wheel covering.
568 km/h (353 mph) at sea level with ETC 504 and fixed wheel covering.

Armament

Guns: (all synchronized to fire through propeller arc)
2 × 13 mm (.51 in) MG 131 machine guns with 475 rpg
2 × 20 mm MG 151 cannons with 250 rpg in the wing root
Bombs: 1 × 500 kg (1,102 lb) SC 500 bomb (optional)

thx PINTO I know about this one ;-) Once you fly P51 from Hal your expectations are a little higher I guess. (Still respect Detlef's work ofc.)

You asked for a Fw 190, that's a Fw 190 ;)

Having a plane get to the quality of the P-51 is a metric crap top of work - no one is probably going to just pick this up and do it unless they're passionate about this specific plane. Your best bet to get it realized is to learn how to do 3D modelling, coding, and data mining and do it yourself. Other people will be willing to help you learn and work through specific problems, and you might even find a collaborator or two, but the odds of someone picking up this plane and running with it are slim.

There's a discord server specifically for WWII aircraft plane development, if you'd like to join: https://discord.gg/UqMChbg

... or maybe just ask me. I usually create my Models to derive several variants from them, so I already have a D9 3D Model built from the current A8:

The A8 Variant is currently undergoing an overhaul and gets improved FDM, weapons, shaders and a better cockpit. I planned to do a D9 once this is completed.
Help with that is of course appreciated.

Hallo Detlef,

danke fur diese flugzeug! Es sieht gut aus. Am besten flugzeug. Ich werde arbeiten mit. I will continue in English :-D Sure I was planning to contact you soon. I am curently learning Blender and JSB sim. So yeah it would be nice if I could participate on D9 and other things in the future. Thx
