Idea: use aviation pioneers' name as code name

Postby tonghuix » Tue Mar 27, 2018 11:21 am

== Why Change code name? ==

1. Now every 3 month change a new default airport, I believe it was a great idea. However, developers have to working on related project every 3 month, costs a lot of manpower. And the default airport not such perfect as expect, and needing a lot update still.

2. Tutorial and some documents related default airport have to updated too, such The Manual of FllightGear. Some VFR/IFR cross country courses needs rework every 3 month.

3. Honor aviation pioneers will also promote aviation culture and let more developer involves in aircraft developing.

== Default Airport ==

I suggest annual major release change default airport. such us FG 2019.x and FG 2020.x. That mean we could use the whole year to develop a perfect default airport and update aircraft tutorial, documents, airplane flying courses and all the others which related to default airport.

== Code Name ==

But we still need a code name for every quarterly release, so let's pick one from aviation pioneers. and propose a related aircraft for the pioneer if available.

AFAIR, one of the main points of changing the default airport with each release was to try to drive scenery development so the up-coming default airport would be more developed and cleaned up by the time the release came out...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
