Shader for condensation

An exciting "new" option in FlightGear, that includes reflections, lightmaps, the particle system etc.. A lot is yet to be discovered/implemented!

Shader for condensation

Hello,

I am thinking about implementing some condensation effects such as those shown on this video: https://youtu.be/9y9Pb3NLZko is there any present shader that could be applied here?

That looks more like a particle effect than a shader. The particle system in FG is quite barebones, but you could have a look here and here for some pointers.

I am aware of the particle system, but i've been told t's inefficient and brings down performance considerably. Maybe I'll try with some surfaces and textures instead.

You are correct, but right now there aren't any other options available unless you want to tackle the problem yourself and create another particle system based on instancing or compute shaders.

Actually the F-16 has used the flame shader to great effect for vapor trails, and I've since used the same thing for the Shuttle wing tips.
