Shuttle approaches

Testing the new approach trainer function of the Shuttle - this allows you to do your approach and land, get a quick evaluation, change weather and other settings and retry the approach under different conditions. It's actually fairly instructive and a good way to start learning to fly the Shuttle, as it requires practically only piloting skills.

Approaching Bermuda International Airport (an abort landing site) in somewhat poor visibility (I got a view on the runway only after clearing the cloud base):

A fair evening, still on Bermuda:

LeTube Airbase, France (TAL site):

... and drag chute out.

Same approach in sketchy weather - slight drizzle:

I didn't actually know we had spray implemented, Wayne must have done this at some point...

And a night landing at LeTube, touchdown zone illuminated by floodlights:

Very, very nice visuals, Thorsten.
How did you move the Shuttle or camera off center in image 2 (and other subsequent images)? Some in-sim technique? The new FGCam from a couple of years back?
This makes for very nice compositions compared to the regular aircraft bang in the middle screenshots.

I'm making use of the fact that my new laptop has an unholy screen resolution. I've found that increasing view distance somewhat to have the aircraft relatively small then gives me the choice to either crop or resize and crop so that I can usually get the screenshot I want.

If not resized, they're cropped to ~ a quarter of the full size - which allows some nice options.

Those are really nice screen shots. Some of them are overall the best I've seen in FG. Actually stunning!

The spray was implemented way back, but it looks like it is missing the appropriate texture or the path is messed up. It shouldn't be so blocky, I usually see that when it is resorting to a default if it can't find the assigned texture.
I'll take a look.

This "approach" helper is really nice to have. It's not easy touching down the Shuttle within the limits.

Indeed, impressive screenshots.
I particularly love those lights effects and vegetations around the runway.

TDZ flooding lights look so real.

Okay, I couldn't resist at least trying this....

There's a good reason NASA requires the landing site clear of T-storms - it's basically not doable. Not even a bit (which would establish that I'm definitely not that guy from 'Space Cowboys'...)

Tried a couple of approaches, very nice work on the trainer.

Some screens of the test, next for me is to master Advanced weather, your TSRA screens are astonishing.

Sadly, our Florida scenery isn't really good...

On IGS preparing to touch down at Keflavik, Iceland - you can see some activity of the airbase in the background...

Image

Another approach into Keflavik - with some of my favourite clouds. I've always liked being between two cloud layers.

Image

Some drift ice on the water, the coast of Iceland in view...

Image

... it's the kind of natural beauty which makes it hard to focus on the HUD...

Beautiful color, you have to teach me your tricks with advanced weather, very nice tweakings.
First one is looking good also, very real.

I tried some landings in Easter Island, thanks for the hint, very interesting with the slope and hills messing up the radar altimeter :)

Hmm, not the best place for a runway overrun...

Yeah, overrun not allowed.

Another fun Airport, Rodez South of France ( LFCR) near Toulouse, quite high, medium runway ( 2300m)

Nice challenge, just blew up a tyre :)

Back into Paro, I didn't loose my goal to land there one day :)

Best attempt of the week so far, too high on speed, but within the runway limits, there is hope
