I now have an interest in aviation

Postby BBmine » Thu Aug 03, 2017 1:55 am

Hello FlightGear players! I just got back from aviation camp a few days ago, and downloaded FlightGear. I realized that I actually like aviation! I might want to do it as a career. What do y'all think?

It's a lot of hard work and expensive. For example, BA charges over 90 thousand pounds for you to become a first officer on the a320 fleet. You get the money back in your salary (basically the 90 thousand is a guarantee that you won't get trained then run off to easyJet or Cathay Pacific).

But probably worth it :D

Worth realizing two things:
- You don't need to be an airline pilot to have a career in aviation. There are lots of other roles as well, including design, engineering.
- You don't need to have a career in aviation to still be heavily involved by flying etc.

That said, it's great to have a passion and being passionate about your career is going to make you more satisfied.

Hey BB, How old are you?

If you are talking about become a pilot, First good thing to taste aviation is to go in aviation airfield and register to a club, talk to some instructors, students, and others passionate/wannabe and do some hours on light aircraft.
Especially if you live in the USA, it is far less expensive than in Europe :)

As said Stuart, there are many differents jobs under the word Aviation, so you have to think about it, what will you like,to Fly aircraft,to build them,to fix them etc...

As for Pilot, it's indeed quite expensive, you have to be sure to well understand what is really a pilot job, because it's a huge investement and if you find out the job is not fit for you after 80000 dollars spent, well it hurts :)
That's why having some contact in aviation club, or others, is quite important.

You have also military way, where everything is paid by army, you are engaged for 10 years maybe. So first military aviation and then back into the civilian stuff.

If you have question, don't hesitate.

No, planes. I've flown in a Cessna 172 and a Beech 200. Too bad FlightGear doesn't have Beech 200s yet. :P And I still plan to fly planes when I'm older, but probably jets for my job, but a small plane for myself.

Beech 200 , cool .
I flew on it also, pretty damn aircraft.
How did you fly in it? Not very common to have a beech 200 in an airfield :)
