Boeing 757 ILS

Postby flycanarias » Sun Jun 18, 2017 7:44 pm

Hello guys,
I have an issue with the 757, concerning the ILS approach.
When I activate APP, the AP switches to LOC, and aligns the aircraft horizontally. But no matter how near I am to the Airport, the plane doesn't descend, and doesn't activate APP. I'm best cases, I have to descend by V/S or FLCH... If I don't do so, it flies over the Airport.
I checked frequency and course, both correct, and I checked I'm in ILS range.
What is the problem?
Thanks for every help!

APP arms G/S mode, but it won't activate that mode until you intercept the glideslope. So if you're too high and don't intercept it, it will never actually enter G/S mode. It's best to be be flying level below the glideslope and intercept it from below.

Thank You very much,
I will try this out ASAP.
One question, are you still actively developing the Boeing 757 ?
Your work is highly appreciated, and I have several ideas to make that great plane even better.
Kind regards,

Indeed, always check the approach plate for the altitude which to descent to be able to intercept the G/S. Usually somewhere around 2.000 to 2.500 ft. For some enclosed airports it can be challenging to get there in the first place, so try on accessible airports first, e.g. EHAM, come in 3.000 ft over the coastline and descend to 2.000 ft @ 10 miles, while turning right towards Rwy 18R. Freq 110.10 (VPB), Crs 183.

And I agree, the 757 is an excellent plane to fly.

I'm still actively maintaining it (and the other aircraft in my signature), but there's not much development going on at the moment because of my job and travel. Glad to hear that you're all enjoying it, though.

hello tikibar

you seem to be the official maintainer of the boeing 757 ;)
I've found a little bug on this plane : on MP, engines do not appear as you can see on the screenshot
Image

I can search some correctives and provide them if you want
- property /sim/engines is not aliased in the sim/multiplay/generic/string[2]
- sim/multiplay/generic/string[2] is not used in Models/757-200.xml

cheers !

Can confirm the above bug exists, and hardba11's change fixes it.

I have to take a more in-depth look at this. I managed to find one 757-200 on the MP map when I had a few minutes to check while I was flying a UFO, and I could see the engines with no problem. I saw a Finnair livery with RB-211 engines and no winglets on the ramp at SCIP.

It may be that if you have downloaded a recent version of the 757 and the other player you see is using a recent version, then you can see the engines. If one (or both) have an old version, then maybe not. sim/model/variant is used to carry the engine information to the model, and that property is transmitted over MP. Older versions of the 757 did not use that property, so if the other player is using an older version, s/he may not be transmitting the variant prop, in which case the engines would not appear to you, even if you're using a new version.

You can test this by using the MP loopback feature in 2017.2. It's in the wiki http://wiki.flightgear.org/Multiplayer_ ... ebug-level

thanks tikibar, I downloaded the version that appear in your signature ;)

@richard, I didn't know the debug level, it could be very useful thanks :)
to debug I usually aunch 2 fgfs with different parameters :
the first : --multiplay=out,10,127.0.0.1,5000 --multiplay=in,10,127.0.0.1,5001
the second : --multiplay=out,10,127.0.0.1,5001 --multiplay=in,10,127.0.0.1,5000

Hey tikibar, one question,
can you modify the shaders of the 757, so that it reflects a little bit, just like the 737-800 or the 777 ?

It used to have that shader set up. It made the aircraft look gray in all the liveries. The only one it looked good on was American Airlines. I don't plan to go back to it.

That should be fixed by using the grain merge reflection type.

Thanks, Thorsten. I'll give that a try next time I mess with the visuals. @flycanarias - That's not going to happen anytime soon, but I'll put it on my list for when I have a little more free time.

I also did some checking into the no engines over MP thing and confirmed this: if both you and the other pilot on MP have a version of the 757 from June 2015 or later, you will see the engines over MP. But if the other player has an older version, then you will not see his/her engines over MP. So there's nothing to fix. It's already done. Just make sure you have a newer version and then ask your friends on MP to download the newer version too.
