OSM buildings and roads for California

Postby paju1986 » Sun May 14, 2017 10:27 am

Hello.

I have created OSM buildings and Roads for all the state of California with osm2city. You can download it here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5TeZxXfefn3VkViMDlCMXlrQUU

Looks great, will this end up in terrasync-OSM?

Does any of http://wiki.flightgear.org/Areas_populated_with_osm2city_scenery automatically get installed when using the OSM building options with terrasync?

If not a small installation instruction would be helpful on the wiki.

I guess the answer is no - we're still in the process of hashing out and testing what format / encodings we want to use for this on TS to minimize file transfer and maximize maintainability, and with the latest changes of a few days ago practically all existing sceneries (including these already on TS) would be considered legacy.

Once the infrastructure is in place, the plan is to generate OSM structures regularly FG-side and not rely on contributor submissions.

No, they do not get installed automatically - and they are quite legacy.

Yes, I (or someone else) will write instructions. For external contributions it is just to download, extract and then point --fg-scenery to the directory.

yes, plus you will have to use a specific texture atlas and pkl-file. I will update the documentation at that point.

Hello,
good job.
I had to change "wide-clear / black / red-yacht.ac" to "wide_clear / black / red_yacht.ac" in .stg

Nice idea, I hope, this on-the-fly OSM generating will run in the dedicated thread, not in main loop. Or user will need 6GHz CPU.

That is not the idea. The idea is that the whole world is built regularly (see. e.g. efforts by merspieler) - such that individual users do not need to contribute parts. "FG-side" is not meant to be "inside" a FlightGear session.
