 Good thing it was not a formation flight!

I guess that puts a new meaning to the phrase "He was really ripping it"*

Thanks for sharing!

Moral the story - don't buy cheap tar for your runway.

"Why not?" said Gurder.

Could have become the worst air travel disaster in history. Airline pilot mistook taxiway for runway on KFSO while flying visually on final in the dark and pulled up at last second narrowly avoiding 4 waiting jets   :!: Article in Genglish translated from Norwegian
Edit: Another article in English

Gave me the chills. Can you imagine being the pilot on the ground, reflecting about what just happened, and that it very well may have been you're being observant that just saved your life. Talk about defensive driving (piloting).

the Mercury article has an error in it... "One of the airport’s two runways"... ummm... there're four runways at KSFO!

i won't even mention the different color lights on the runways and taxiways edges which should have been a huge clue that he was headed to a taxiway instead of a runway...

there's also these additional articles at mercury...

Take off and impressively smooth landing of a British Vulcan bomber (note how only the aft tyres of the main gear boggies touches the ground for several seconds): 8)
