how are you launching?
if you are using the --launcher, it will use the last airport you chose...
i just tested loading raw without using the launcher and without specifying --airport and properly ended up at LSZH...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I'm deleting %appdata%\flightgear.org folder and then clicking just FlightGear at start menu. It starts at SBRJ by just specifying whole scenery folder and choosing Cessna 172P.

have you tried another craft? it is possible that you may be being transported to SBRJ even though you are starting at LSZH... if this is true, the c172p team will have to take another look at their startup stuffs... i'll test it minimally now and see what happens...

[edit]

i just started off in the c172p at LSZH without deleting the private storage directory... that should not be necessary, anyway... so i started off there and took off into the night with the 180HP engine and headed straight out and looped back around to land again...

Can confirm it doesn't work on mac. It crashes when trying to load the aircraft and scenery.

Oh dear....

I guess my idea that 2016.1.2 was the last stable fully working 100% bug free version was true....

Here the same (Win 8, deinstalled 2016.3.1, then inst. 4.1): With no location selected, it put my plane to Santos Dumont, exactly same spot as on yanfiz' screenshot. I never before started there ...
But despite that surprising airport drift, install went smoother than going from 2.1 to 3.1: The launcher didn't go double vision with the installed planes - it even shows a nice "uninstall" button instead of the "update" button per plane that didnt work in 3.1?.
I am new to flightgear (started my 172 lessons with 2.1 two months ago) and am rather happy with it - Switzerland or Brasil, come on, what's the difference?

There is indeed a hardcoded airport id in the source as a fallback in case none was provided. This is - guess what - SBRJ.
This /should/ not be used as there is LSZH defined in preferences.xml (or better the included location-presets.xml).
I can't tell why this procedure of setting the startup position does not work for some machines. This is definitely a bug.
As a workaround, provide --airport=LSZH as a startup parameter or select LSZH in the launcher.

ok... there's one or two reports on the dev list about this... it wasn't happening on zakalawe's system but it is possible the problem has been found...
