Postby vslash » Fri May 27, 2016 10:56 pm

Hi all,

I just started the Bell 412. I'm completely noobs with Aircraft modeling in FG, but I have a good bkg on coding and design too.
So, I start this thread in order to get help when things goes bad or too difficult.
For the project :
- design : Blender and different meshes and textures from the web.
- FDM : currently yasim with parameters from the uh1.
Some pictures of the work in progress:

The meshes is currently not complete ; it's coming from 2 sources on the net ; one is useable but false (scale errors) : the other is ok but not useable (a lot of loose parts, duplicated parts, mainly unwrappable and probably with a copryright license).
So, I'm starting to think making my own meshes from the both and the blueprint.
Thanks for the link. I will take a look at the UH1 ... as soon as the server allows me to download the file.
Some trouble I encountered:
- Source 1 (.obj ; clean meshes but with scale errors):
Image

- source 2 (.3ds dirty meshes, with right scale):

No offence, but its a wasted effort when one already exists, which is fairly well advance.

The Sites user database is out of whack with the users which is affecting downloading. Should be fixed this coming week.

Hi everyone, some work in progress tip/info:
the method I use to make a "Rivets and Plates" texture :
- tools used : Blender, Illustrator, Photoshop
1. Blender: Make uvmap according to your needs ; i use the "View other object" under uvmap editor, i don't sync with 3DView in order to keep uv's.
2. blender: Export uvmap to an svg drawing (1024x1024) ; do it for all objects that will share the same texture.
3. illustrator: import all the svg, put them together, then draws your rivet and plate according to a pattern ; I use one found on the net
4. Photoshop: copy/paste from Illustrator as SmartObject, then apply some effect as needed.
5. Blender: apply the image to the texture
With picture:
* Model found on the net:
Image

* Illustrator drawings:
Image

* Photoshop with effect:
Image

* Blender:

The model I found on the net is not really accurate, but it will fill my needs.
I will put all the mess on git as soon as the first stage will be done: meshes and fgfs structure done.
CU soon.

Time would have been better spent on a variant we don't already have in FG, like the Venom.

thank you guys, you're welcome !
simply read carefuly the title of this thread : "Bell 412" in the Aircraft section. Perhaps could you open another thread "Why people design aircraft they like", or "Why there's Microsoft and Linux on the same computer" in the "Does god exists" section ?
To much trolls here, anyway, for those that will read this thread later : the Bell 412 will be pushed on github, just crawl it and be patient, there's a lot of work to come.
Thank you,
bye,

PS : forum Frontpage : "Development" section : "FlightGear is opensource, so you can be the developer. In the need for help on anything? We are here to help you. "

Hi, vslash!
Despite the fact that there is already a Huey in FGUK, you did an awesome job on this! You did it really quickly too -- you only started on Friday!
If you need help with anything, just let any of us know, and we'll be sure to help :D

And also, kudos to you for not asking for a Bell 412 to be made, but instead just doing it... and doing it very well! That's something which I appreciate a lot, and makes me more likely to offer support. :)

I'm not a troll we simply pointed out the Bell412 already exists, but if that's enough for you to class me or anyone else a troll that just makes you a ****. (edited by moderator because someone pointed out there are alternative definitions of this word that not everyone may be aware of.)
