Awesome, thanks!

And nothing specific yet - we are currently discussing our route. Currently, the most popular suggestions will be inbound from RODN or PWAK, but that could change. OP RF are going to be flying in as 1 or 2 formations, depending on attendance, and basing ourselves out of RJTY for the weekend (we may have J Maverick 16 as a controller there, but I'll let him speak on that if he wishes). On the inbound flight, we will be filing flight plans via http://flightgear-atc.alwaysdata.net/ so that controllers will know who the PoC is and how many pilots should be in the formation.

We are also discussing OP RF events, which will include some dogfighting over the Sea of Japan (and ideally out of ATC's hair), and possibly aerobatics, racing, and hopefully some formation flying to and from several civilian airports if the ATC is comfortable with it.

Just to piggy-back on PINTO's comment and put everyone's mind at ease, OPRF won't be "conducting" any military-sim operations around controlled airspace (inside 150 miles) or within 100 miles of Japan. We will have some simulated missions for our crew, and they will likely scramble out of Yokota, but the mission areas will be far-removed from the festival to ensure everyone is able to enjoy themselves.

I will post this again and inform all of the ATCs before/during the event... but if there are any issues with OPRF folks making the event unpleasant for anyone, please let either me, PINTO, or Leto know. We don't want to cause any hard feelings, and appreciate the chance to fly with the larger flightgear community.

I will be RJTT Haneda APPR/DEP.

I have no issues with this, I don't think any ATC will, so go ahead!

We have a few more controllers onboard - I've updated the ATC schedule.

@PINTO and @Raider1: I'll crosspost your intentions to make sure the other controllers are aware; as I stated before, I don't expect any issues at all.

Nice, thankya much.

As a part of that, is there anyone who can help me decipher the enroute charts from the Japan AIS? Specifically the red fuzzy lines and the green fuzzy lines? Or even a complete map legend.

There's a legend for "fuzzy" lines in the third enroute chart in the official AIP. Specifically:
  • dark blue ones mark restricted and/or prohibited airspace (see section ENR 5.1 of the AIP for the complete list and a description of each area - they are mainly placed in correspondence of military fire ranges);
  • red ones mark military training/testing areas (section ENR 5.2 of the AIP);
  • green ones mark civil training areas (for flight examinations, aircraft checks... - see section ENR 5.3 of the AIP);
  • red fuzzy lines with a dashed border are "corridors" used by military aircraft to move between training areas.

As for other symbols: besides the usual markings for navigational aids,
  • airways are marked in dark blue (if lower) or brown (if higher), while RNAV routes are marked in light blue;
  • reporting points are marked with triangles (full ones if they are "compulsory", i.e. if you must tell ATC you're flying over them, empty ones if they are not);
  • circles with an "L" or an "H" inside them are mandatory reporting points if you're flying at an altitude, respectively, below or at/above FL240;
  • ACC boundaries are marked with dashed, brown lines.

@PINTO: Basically, we are going to fly where the others can't, so the red fuzzy lines are the highways and the dark blue ones are the DangerZone 8) .

After installing the models from your second repository (AirBase), everything works fine here and looks nice, no problems (Linux Mint 17.3 Rebecca).

Perfect! Thanks.

D-ECHO I've got a question for you: since maybe I'm gonna also improve RJSM Misawa AB's scenery (layout is from an X-Plane author and I'll add 3D models) which is north of Japan, I need someone who can convert me the TerraGear work (apt.dat to FG scenery), would you be able to do it for me?

Quick heads up for all ATCs: Wolfram Wagner (the author of OpenRadar) has released a new version to address the airport download problems - I would suggest getting them while you can.

Hi All

As terraGIT progresses northbound, more and more world is available via github :mrgreen:
Recently, the transfer has succesfully upload every part of the World South of n50 latitude (that is up to n40 tiles and Down)

This includes 99% of the territory of Japan, that we expect to see available for the next festival. Therefore, Japan can be now installed and enjoyed via terraGIT.

Efforts are being made to add new patches with new layouts and enhacements by the Festival development team, allowing us to enjoy a much renewed Japan on the Festival via terraGIT :D

I also included installation and de-installation scripts to facilitate installing the country.

TILES
Japan territory is covered by the Tiles e130n30 e140n30 and e140n40

Submodules

The following submodules are required for a complete installation of Japan

Code: Select all
Objects/e130n30
Objects/e140n30
Objects/e140n40
Terrain/e130n30
Terrain/e140n30
Terrain/e140n40

HOWTO

1. Clone the terraGIT

Code: Select all
git clone https://github.com/FGMEMBERS-TERRAGIT/terraGIT
cd terraGIT

2. Use of the installation script

Code: Select all
install/Japan

3. Use of the deinstallation script (if you want to remove Japan locally)

Code: Select all
deinstall/Japan

4. Manual operation of the submodules (alternative to the script)

a -installing

Code: Select all
git submodule init Objects/e130n30
git submodule init Objects/e140n30
git submodule init Objects/e140n40
git submodule init Terrain/e130n30
git submodule init Terrain/e140n30
git submodule init Terrain/e140n40

git submodule update Objects/e130n30
git submodule update Objects/e140n30
git submodule update Objects/e140n40
git submodule update Terrain/e130n30
git submodule update Terrain/e140n30
git submodule update Terrain/e140n40

b - deinstalling

Code: Select all
git submodule deinit Objects/e130n30
git submodule deinit Objects/e140n30
git submodule deinit Objects/e140n40
git submodule deinit Terrain/e130n30
git submodule deinit Terrain/e140n30
git submodule deinit Terrain/e140n40

git submodule update Objects/e130n30
git submodule update Objects/e140n30
git submodule update Objects/e140n40
git submodule update Terrain/e130n30
git submodule update Terrain/e140n30
git submodule update Terrain/e140n40

Final Note

Currently the content in terraGIT is identical to terraSync, but we will attemp uploading major updates on this region for the Festival

If you clone and prepare now, you can update simply by doing

Code: Select all
git pull
install/Japan

(the install script also manages updates!)

or

Code: Select all
git pull
git submodule update

Have fun everyone!

Hi All

It works!!

Updating terraGIT to contain the latest development by Kansai was a doable task, not necessarily VERY easy, but as a proof of concept I can say, it works. Wonderfully.

terraGIT initially contained the scenery as available via Terrasync. For Kansai:

Image

Before the update the stand-alone FGMEMBERS RJBB scenery was fixed for small bugs, and osm road and buildings made available by default.
Finally The moment of true:

(drumming)

The terraGIT update took all changes, including an instant gratification new layout, all new buildings (no need to reformat and prepare obstinately for scenery databases), Jetway and groundnet files available (which cant happen via terrasync, also), and osm content also displayed properly by default!

It was total victory in terms of updating our beloved FlightGear scenery, and with instant gratification.

@Israel @SHM

Great, I'll download it. I already posted this didn't I? :mrgreen:

I will be adding the new RJTT OpenRadar files to his Git as well soon, so hopefully wwagner can add them :) These new files by Oscar (AA2234, oscar6662) include SID/STAR, taxiways and labels, parking labels and more and are mostly complete!!
