Please send us at least fgfs.log

BTW,are you using FGrun? Click on the folder icon next to the yellow triangle.

Frequently it is set to something like C:/Programs/FGFS/fgdata/ when it should be C:/Programs/FGFS/data/
(P.S. Don't copy and paste my directories. They are just for illustration purposes. look at the bold text and adjust my directories to match your installation. )

Yeah it looks like going through FGROOT is the best way to go. Seems as though I miss so much in being able to "set-up" the Sim without it. Certain airports and seanery don't show and some airplanes as well, going through the "front door" start-up.
Im really excited to experience the new visuals but for some reason though my fps has slowed dramatically. Just floating around in the ufo I'm only getting 6-15 fps. I have the same settings that I had on 3.6 and eventually got 20-40 fps consistently, which looks fine to me. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Disabled fog
No random vegetation
ALS - max shaders (never was a problem in 3.6)
AI traffic Enabled
Max anti aliasing (never had a problem in 3.6)
Compression disabled
Can remember what else, I'm typing from my phone away fro the comp, but I guess I'll disable everything and work backwards from there. I'm just a little surprised after reading some other posts that say the frame rate is improved over the 3.4/3.6 when I've put it in the same settings and it's gotten worse.

What I would do is disable AI TRAFFIC which currently is unstable, damaged, and broken.

Hi
Hope that this is a suitable thread to post my question....

I installed version 2016.1.1 in Linux (archlinux)
Somehow I cant figure out how to start the new qt launcher.
I tried it with "fgfs --launcher" but with no success. Flightgear starts and runs nicely, but without the qt launcher...
Any suggestions what I can try to make it start?

Thanks in advance..

Are you sure the version you installed is compiled with the Qt launcher? It's actually optional to add (and for instance not part of my setup).

Thanks Thorsten, I have to check that. I installed the package from my distro and I am not sure if it was compiled with the Qt launcher.

The Arch version is currently not compiled with the launcher - the last time I e-mailed the maintainer the updated PKGBUILDs to fix some packaging bugs, I was not sure whether to add it, as a (heavy) dependency on Qt5 was deemed generally undesirable. To be on the safe side, I did not add it.

You can, however, compile FlightGear from source and enable it - I can confirm it works well. Should you wish, I'll be happy to provide you the updated PKGBUILDS to enable that feature.

elgaton, thanks for your replay.
I checked the PKGBUILD and did not find a hint that the launcher was disabled. :oops:
Is the launcher default enabled or disabled?
I would be happy if you could provide me the PKGBUILDS to enable the Qt-launcher.
I had installed the git version before an I liked the launcher.

Thanks a lot roman

The launcher is disabled unless you pass the ENABLE_QT option to CMake.

To use the following PKGBUILDs, follow these instructions.
  1. Create a directory that will hold all repositories (I'll name it FGCHECKOUT).
  2. If you haven't already done it, clone the SimGear/FlightGear/FGData repositories:
    Code: Select all
    cd FGCHECKOUT
    git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/flightgear/simgear
    git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/flightgear/flightgear
    wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/flightgear/files/fgdata-ng-boilerplate.git.tar/download -O fgdata-ng-boilerplate.git.tar
    mkdir fgdata
    cd fgdata
    tar xf ../fgdata-ng-boilerplate.git.tar
    git pull
    git checkout -- .
    cd ..
  3. Create the build directories:
    Code: Select all
    mkdir -p packages packages/simgear-git packages/flightgear-git
  4. Put the following code in packages/simgear-git/PKGBUILD (changing the FGCHECKOUT path):
    Code: Select all
    # $Id$
    # Maintainer: Sergej Pupykin <pupykin.s+arch@gmail.com>
    # Maintainer: William Rea <sillywilly@gmail.com>
    # Contributor: Hans Janssen <hans@janserv.xs4all.nl>

    conflicts=('simgear')
    options=('!strip')

    pkgver() {
      cd "FGCHECKOUT/simgear"
      git describe --long --tags | sed 's/\([^-]*-g\)/r\1/;s/-/./g' | sed 's/version\///g'
    }

    build() {
      mkdir -p "${srcdir}/simgear-build/"
      cd "${srcdir}/simgear-build/"
      cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr -DCMAKE_INSTALL_LIBDIR=lib -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release -DENABLE_CURL=ON "FGCHECKOUT/simgear"
      make
    }

    package() {
      cd "${srcdir}/simgear-build"
      make DESTDIR="${pkgdir}/" install
    }
  5. Put the following code in packages/flightgear-git/PKGBUILD (changing the FGCHECKOUT path):
    Code: Select all
    # Contributor: Pascal Groschwitz <p.groschwitz@googlemail.com>
    # Modified by elgaton
    pkgname=flightgear-git
    pkgver=2016.2.0.r27.g43b4db7

    license=('GPL')
    depends=('libxmu' 'libxi' 'zlib' 'libxrandr' 'glu' 'openal' 'qt5-base' 'openscenegraph')

    makedepends=('boost' 'cmake' 'mesa' 'simgear-git' 'git')
    provides=('flightgear')
    conflicts=('flightgear')
    options=('!strip')

    pkgver() {
      cd "FGCHECKOUT/flightgear"
      git describe --long --tags | sed 's/\([^-]*-g\)/r\1/;s/-/./g' | sed 's/version\///g'
    }

    build() {
      cd "$srcdir"

      mkdir -p "$srcdir/build"
      cd "$srcdir/build"

      cmake \
      -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr \
      -DENABLE_QT=1 \
      -DFG_DATA_DIR:STRING="FGCHECKOUT/fgdata" \
      -DCMAKE_INSTALL_LIBDIR=/usr/lib \
      -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release "FGCHECKOUT/flightgear"

      make || return 1
    }

    package(){
      cd "$srcdir/build"
      make DESTDIR="$pkgdir/" install
      install -Dm0644 FGCHECKOUT/flightgear/package/flightgear.desktop $pkgdir/usr/share/applications/flightgear.desktop
      sed -i 's|Exec=.*|Exec=fgfs --launcher|' $pkgdir/usr/share/applications/flightgear.desktop
      install -Dm0644 FGCHECKOUT/flightgear/package/flightgear.ico $pkgdir/usr/share/icons/flightgear.ico
      install -Dm0644 FGCHECKOUT/flightgear/icons/128x128/apps/flightgear.png "$pkgdir/usr/share/icons/flightgear.png"
      install -Dm0644 FGCHECKOUT/flightgear/scripts/completion/fg-completion.bash $pkgdir/usr/share/bash-completion/completions/fgfs
    }
  6. Compile and install SimGear:
    Code: Select all
    cd packages/simgear-git
    makepkg
    sudo pacman -U <name of the simgear-git package>
  7. Compile and install FlightGear:
    Code: Select all
    cd ../flightgear-git
    makepkg
    sudo pacman -U <name of the flightgear-git package>

This will download and compile the latest Git version - to get updates, just do:
Code: Select all
cd FGCHECKOUT
for i in fgdata flightgear simgear; do cd $i; git pull; cd ..; done

and then recreate the simgear-git and flightgear-git packages as described above.
