I've never seen landing gears like these before...

Any more interesting landing gears you've seen on the web?

Nope, they are real. The last photo is from edwards.af.mil .

EDIT: The second photo is the track experiment from the Convair B-36 Peacemaker.

Heh, found a video of the peacemaker with the tracks too.

I do not know if it is true, but one of the YouTube comments seem like a very plausible explanation:
trexx63 wrote:The reason tracked landing gear was tried was to stop the problem of the B-36 sinking into paved runways when parked. Being the heaviest, land based airplane in exsistance up to that time the Peacemaker was outfitted with the largest single wheel-main-landing gear yet made. Track treads were tried as a novel way to spread the weight and save rubber. Eventually, a mult-truck, rubber tire configuration was settled on.

If not else I noted the rather large smoke puffs when touching down in the video above. Undoubtedly caused by the large contact area.

I would guess that tracked landing gears would wear significantly faster than tires.

one would think that a motorized tracked landing gear would help to alleviate some wear and tear on the track gear...

in other words, spin the tracks up to XX speed and then set down while releasing the drive tension on the tracks... the same could be done for regular t[i|y]re gear except that tracked gear already has more added to it that a spin-up motor assembly wouldn't be that much more to add...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
