What are the best planes on FG. I fly airliners/commercial jets.

Hello cptclark, there is no certain answer for your question, because it depends on which type of aircrafts you would like to fly.

If you feel you can handle it, (it is VERY complex), you can get the Airbus A330 here:

707 is very detailed, and is currently my favorite airliner. I also really like the AN-225 and the 737-300 with the control wheel steering is SUPER nice to fly.

I would also throw in the CRJ700-family. Not as complex and fancy as the A320/B777 but quite realistic and fun to fly for shorter trips 1h-3h. D-JSB did great work here. Still beta, but stable release will be before christmas.

The aircraft in my signature are all in pretty good shape. The 747-8 and the 757-200 are both available on the main FG website.

To use the cutting-edge aircraft from the official aircraft repository, you'll need the FGAddon#Obtaining_aircraft instructions and the most up to date 3.7 version of FlightGear (nightly build or self compiled). Note that the cutting-edge 3.7 version can at times be unstable/broken/WIP.
