you don't need to know much about coding, or even building from source, for this - it's really more about HTML/JavaScript and some Nasal glue code.
The approach detailed in the article is also unnecessarily complex these days, because Nasal can directly make http requests, but also because of Torsten's mongoose work, which supports WebSockets.
Somebody familiar with a CMS like wordpress or drupal should be able to come up with a simple system within 1-2 days of spare time hacking, using the code snippets that can be found on the wiki.
Personally, I am not the slightest bit interested in MP or VAs, so I am really unlikely to help with this, beyond posting pointers - but otherwise it's really straightforward stuff
