A next gen flite sim is coming?

Saw this on Avsim. Scenery looks pretty good

There is even discussion about using FG

It's nice, but commercial software being under constant financial pressure is never a certain thing, they can decide to close shop and leave one with no way to add features/fix code. It's best to support open projects that ensure the hobby will continue regardless of economical factors.

while the discussion in the 2nd link is interesting - the OP is apparently somewhat familiar with FG, and simulators as a whole (the term "IG" is telling) and FlightGear's architecture/issues (fgCreateSubsystems), but also pretty ignorant of any licensing issues resulting from adapting GPL'ed code for a proprietary project ...

And many things considered "modular" and "reusable" are far from being that.

And doing what he/she suggested, replacing the scenery engine, has been done already - just look at poweroftwo's osgEarth work ...

Overall, it's a neat little discussion, but also a little ill-informed - however, it will be interesting to see what happens to this. In these days, you can accomplish tons of things with a little crowd funding and project coordination, i..e they could certainly bootstrap themselves without being subject to some of the more rigorous constraints that FG suffered, is suffering, from

If the pictures are true, I'd better get weaving.
edit: pehaps he just has a very good computer
post-edit edit: also if it's not free it will be about in the same spot as x-plane

I really want these guys to succeed and any help I can give I will.....

The commercial side I have problems with, but pretty sure it won't be a show stopper.

Well the LOD of the ground objects is looking pretty intensive, are they really making a flight sim or another just another Outterra sim?

One of the commenters on the flightsim.com link brings up an interesting point; When does the ground detail start eating away from the usable memory of the simulation, that could be used for other less visible but more highly detailed effects. We have a pretty darn good weather generation program, it could be expanded to include more detailed air behavior closer to the ground. I can't think of many simulations that do the level of weather and turbulence FG does, and weather is a big factor in any flight simulation.

Just another outerra?

Sorry you lost me, but what's wrong with the start outerra has made..

Weather and turbulence are important yet I wouldn't say these in FG aren't without their problems..

If you think FG can do it better, great.. But don't knock what others are doing.

I find Nasal pretty obscure, too - not so much the language (close enough to JavaScript), as its name though

Nasal has coding conventions and connection to the property tree that are understandable at a basic level. Not saying I completely 'get' Nasal, but I've done some simple modifications and coding within it, and had it work well.

I guess, had it been called "FGScript", not Nasal, more people would be using it probably...

OK, I'm being oblivious to your wordplay :P It eventually dawned on me.

I guess if you named it FG-script would make it superficially appear to be somewhat proprietary?

Doesn't Nasal get used in other sims and programs?

FWIW, there are very few remaining core developers active on the forum these days - should you try the devel list, your experience might be an even more positive one than on the forum - but just in case you (T4T/Bomber) were paying compliments to the FG community as a whole, let me try to respond appropriately:

I think Hooray 's missed the point again.... Talk about always reading what you want to read.

Maybe I could supply a flight model for one of your planes to be in both FG and Outerra...
