Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

Postby legoboyvdlp » Sun Sep 27, 2015 10:34 pm

Code: Select all
ProFlightSimulator is an open source stand alone Flight Simulator.

As always disclosed this is a split / branch from the FlightGear community and has been set up for a very specific reason. -- DISCLOSED WHERE? NOT ON YOUR SOTE, ANYWAY.

It's different from FG due to the many major changes to the game.
-- LIKE?
Why are we different?:

A plug and play system that works without the hassles of advanced customization
Makes it easy to start playing the game without having the need to perform complex technical installation.
--YES, STOLEN FROM US
We offer a one stop launch system and makes it easy to add aircraft + scenery.
No more fiddling with files and not knowing where to copy them. Its a one-click installation process.
--YES, STOLEN FROM US
The complete start up of the game was rewritten to help new users with this issue.
--YES, STOLEN FROM US
There is better hardware and add-on software interfacing capabilities. (Eg: Joystick support)
-YES, STOLEN FROM US

We've incorporated More Photo-Realistic Scenery - YES, STOLEN FROM US
New updates are added monthly. -- SERIOUSLY?

Reduce the lag effect in flying -- MAYBE

New aircraft models are added on a regular basis.
(FG does not provide new updates very regularly) -- THAT IS A LIE
Customer support is only an email away  -- ONLY A FORUM, WIKI, EMAIL AWAY HERE
(Open source products do not offer any support)  -- UH, WE DO
VATSim network integration! Fly with other pilots on aviation networks. (should be ready in 4 months time) -- YES STOLEN FROM US
To be compliant, we've released the game until the GNU/GPL license.
-- OH YEAH, RIGHT. COMPLIANT. REALLY?

There're also planned works to include a few major improvements in the next few months namely:

- Improving joystick interface (one-click configuration with all major flight control hardware)  -- STOLEN
- Intergrating VATSIM and other network support. -- STOLEN
- Constant development of new aircraft and new sceneries. - UH, YEAH

It would be much much different from what FlightGear was.

it also comes complete with bug fixes, and we reinvest back into this version of the game to get programmers to make more additions and bug fixes.

We have a team of paid developers who are working full time to add new code and new ideas to fully develop this.

As such, the cost you'll be paying will go into the development of this game. There will be new changes and updates every month.

This is a separate branch of FlightGear and it may be based on it but it is definitely NOT similar in the aspects mentioned above.

To say it is simply FlightGear would be inaccurate and illegal. -- JUST LIKE YOU

I hope that explains our position

Sounds lovely, don't it?
What a piece of garbage.
My comments in caps.

Stolen, not really. Marketed a bit too "creatively", absolutely.*

I can recall that one FlightGear user posted he had a "flagging spree" on YouTube, marking a plethora of videos using large parts of FlightGear videos he had made.

The nice thing is those screenies are so old they look awful compared to FG!
That's why its important that we update the gallery page.

you could also watermark any FG screen shots, adding the URL to flightgear.org, as well as the creation date and version of FlightGear - including possibly your name/nick name in the digital watermark, as well as the words "free open source flight simulator"

They even have a SpaceShuttle? Really? I don't think so, mate.
And I recognize most of those.
None from me, but I feel like uploading a all rights reserved picture to the FG wiki, emailing it to them, and then getting the site closed down for xopyright violation :P
To re emerge at ProSimFlight

Wait, is that Brest scenery not not GPL?
If so, is it legal to have a GPL picture of something non-GPL?
I flew that Allouette II yesterday.
Those ground sign photos are SOOOO stolen.

I have just seen this topic, looked at the flightprosim site and loughed for the next 10 minutes ;), but I have one question:
They say (bottom of their page) the source code would be "available in members area", as it has to be with GPL, but I can't find this "members area" anywhere on the site, can you?
Regards
[EDIT]By browsing the site, I some time later found the "Disclaimer", where you can download the source code.
[EDIT2]On their site, they say that flightgear wouldn't provide any support, which is definetely wrong(e.g. forum). Are they allowed to do so?

The GPL, at least v2, only requires them to share the source code with the receivers/customers (and allows them to charge for the storage medium and transport, but not more for the source code).* The customers however will inherit the right to sell it further or share it freely. ;)

Well, at least we should not be expected to give their customers support. On the other hand they probably do not want their customers to find their way here and be tipped off. Occasionally their former customers have had their credit card companies withdraw the payment after they got their refund delayed, after not getting [the software] to work and not liking the support they got from [the software vendor]...
